Mobile Hotspot data

Well I would have thought so. It works that way with my Verizon plan. With this prepaid everything was screaming until 2gs hit on my mobile data hotspot. And then it shrunk down to where I can barely stream anything. It continuously buffers making it not even enjoyable even try. I'm currently at 4 something gigs. The phone browser and everything is still lightning fast but the hotspot absolutely turned off like a faucet the second I hit 2 gigs through the shared hotspot I kept track of it on the laptop. I basically stream my laptop when I'm at work cuz I don't like staring at a little phone screen. There was nobody for me to ask in the middle of the night about the 15 gig plan but I'll let you know what they said about the 5G plan when I call this morning

You indicate you're " currently at 4 gigs and something...".   That's not 2 gig, that's a lot closer to 5 gig cap. 

 When You Reach 5 GB of data you have no more data. It doesn't matter how you are using your data you have 5 gigs and then it's a hard stop. 

And where are you getting your number? Off of the prepaid website or are you looking at your phone? Your phone tells you how many gigabytes it has used and for what, but you have to set it to match the cycle.  And the AT&T website may be slightly delayed because data reporting is not live. 

My work laptop tells me how much data it has used. Lenovo. When i hit 2 GB of data supplied to the laptop from the prepaid HOTSPOT, it throttled and never returned. I am at 4.7 total on the phone. The phone is STILL fast according to Speedtest (24.8 Mbps down. 18.1 up). The speeds on the laptop went to the picture below. Sometimes a little faster but the same streaming quality.

My question is if i go to the 15GB plan, will the 2GB Mobile hotspot cap at 2GB or higher with the higher plan.
Yes, I am going to call them once i get some sleep. I was hoping someone here knew.

Unfortunately, I don’t think anyone knows the answer. There should not be a 2GB cap on your 5GB plan. There should be no cap on hotspot data on the 15GB either. Now we know hotspot data is assigned a lower priority but that shouldn’t result in what you’re seeing. 

OK, Now for the answer....

Phone support was useless on this. They wouldnt even acknowledge that it even happens, but at the same time would NOT say it wasnt true...
So... I went in and talked to people in person at the AT&T store here.

Prepaid: 5 GB & 15GB planes will throttle BOTH at 2GB of mobile Shared Data. 

PAID regular Plans: 

The $65 plan has 3GB of shared Mobile Data.

The $75 plan has 15GB of shared Mobile Data.

and if i remember The $85 plan has 50GB of shared Mobile Data.

This is wrong. 

When you purchase a metered plan you may use the entire meter plan in any way you choose.

Whoever you spoke to didn't know what the heck they were talking about, they were just repeating back to you what you told them. You could have told them anything and they would just regurgitate whatever you said.

Talk to someone else.  And this time don't feed them information, especially not wrong information

The hotspot info is listed in the plan info.

Agree with the above, what you were told at the store is just plain wrong. Let’s put it this way, if those plans were truly throttled at 2GB, we would have heard about that long ago. There would have been many complaints. Yours is the first I’ve ever seen.

I am just giving you my experience with the 5GB $30 prepaid plan for the last 3 months. (How long i have had it)
I didn't "Give them the numbers" when I inquired about the regular plans i asked what if any caps there were to the HOTSPOT and she read them off to me. I will try someone else to talk to about it. I know what the website says, That's why i chose AT&T Prepay in the first place over the others.
Apple said they weren't messing with batteries on older phones until they got caught. Batterygate. There are examples of that everywhere. Even Verizon had issues with data, anyway that's a different post...

I CAN and DO use the whole thing. It just makes it hard to watch Any HD content after 2GB. Throttled.

95% of all that mobile data used was for the Hotspot. My laptop needs an always on connection for some of my programs or the program stops. (Say if I have to go on a job, I take my good phone with me. The prepaid stays right here for the laptop. The programs are low bandwidth audio. and stay running. Speed makes no difference. The throttling is not absolute snail pace, just repeated buffering for 720 HD videos and such a lot. The Picture that i posted in the earlier comment was takes at the time of that comment., and those numbers vary a lot, But almost always anywhere under 2.00 Mbps after i hit 2GB pulled from the phone. 
Its just an old phone with a cracked screen that I use. By old I mean Note 10 plus, so its not the phone. I am ONLY using it as a modem for the hotspot.

Thanks for all the responses, and feedback. It is a dual sim phone. I may explore other options. I am considered a High data user by Verizon, and was trying to find another solutions for my hotspot needs at work. I like to be able to take my phone with me when i go on jobs.
