Bought a new S6, at&t severely crippled the phone?

Hi guys,

I bought a new S6 over xmas and I have to say, I'm pretty annoyed with at&t's version of 5.1.1.

On my old S4 Active, I could easily drag down the menu/notification bar and disable/enable all sorts of things Wifi, Location, Mobile Data, Bluetooth, Air Plane Mode etcetc.

Now on my S6, I enjoy that very same feature but for some completely unknown reason at&t (it appears) have decided to remove the Mobile Data option. You can see here someone else has shown that Mobile Data is still available on Verizon Samsung handets https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/92312026/Screenshot_2015-04-30-12-07-14.png so the blame must lie with at&t, anyone else got any experience either way and can help clarify who removed the Mobile Data button and what handsets/Android versions are affected?

What the actual? I appreciate that complaining on this forum is not going to get me a resolution from at&t (probably?), I'm only going to get suggestions from the community, which I'm ready to listen to, but I don't really accept that I should have to use a 3rd party app for something so simple! So, anyway, could someone please point me in the direction of some sort of technical complaints department because there is no way in h-e-l-l I'm settling for a butchered phone having paid $675. In England (where I'm orginally from), you'd be able to return that phone free of charge, for a full refund and be able to cancel any contracts without penalty because I have been supplied a phone that is not fit for purpose.

Thanks for reading.

ps - let me provide you with a little snippet I found while researching this:

Difficulty getting to the mobile data toggle is definitely brand dependent and the reason that you don't see people talking about settings differences with AT&T is because it doesn't occur to anyone that AT&T would do that.

But they started it when they moved to LTE. They specified that no possibility would exist to turn off LTE on their branded phones. And they not only removed the setting, they stripped out the important bits under the hood so that you couldn't fix it even with root access. That's why AT&T was able to publish higher LTE usage adoption rates over anyone else. Great for AT&T, murderous to batteries and data plans back then.

Interesting, this may not be at&ts fault. According to another thread I've just found, it appears as though it's a problem with Samsung's text to speech app

what do we think guys?

Mobile data switch is still available on all devices. Whether it's a quick toggle or in settings you can turn off data at will. LTE is a requirement of things like VOLTE, video calling and advanced messaging. These features are being implemented with LTE in mind so they ability to disable it has been gone for quite some time. My Optimus G Pro never had LTE switch and it's a 2 and a half year old device. It's about the LTE services as much as it's about the data speeds. The HSPA+ network simply can't provide the bandwidth needed for high intensity bandwidth apps.

Yeah, it may *supposed* to be an option but it most definitely is not an option on my S6.

Here's a screenshot from my device:

All I want is one little button to turn off my mobile data!

I have an unlocked, international version and it does NOT have a mobile data option in the pull down menu.

Pin one of the next updates, if you don't have it yet, will be the data optimization tool added.  It has increased my battery life substantially while idle.  The tool prevents apps from using data while idle.  Apps not used regularly will be completely quiet in them background.  Easily as good as the iPhone 6, which has the same size battery.  (Or does the iPhone 6 have a bigger battery?).   In any case, it will last 24 hours on one charge with normal use.  I can now leave it on overnight without plugging it in.

Much better than the piddly 6 hours it was getting months ago.

That toggle has been removed from almost all carriers.  Tmobile users complained of the samething.
