Can't make or receive calls, but can text.

I can't make or receive calls. Texting is just fine both ways.  When I try to make a call, immediately the call ends without ringing. When someone tries to call me, they are immediately sent to voicemail without notice to me that they called. My monthly plan is on auto pay and has just been paid with no lapse in service. I have LG thin q phone.  How to fix?

Exact model number of the phone?

How old is the SIM card?

3g shut off Tuesday.  If your phone was falling back to 3G for phone calls, it can no longer function on the network. If that's the case you should have been notified that your phone needed to be removed/replaced.

Samsung Note 9 furnished by AT&T to prepare for 3G shutdown - shutdown...... text is fine. Phone calls immediately say "call ended" and no 911/emergency calling option on my only phone. No amount of troubleshooting with ATT chat/tech support over 2 days, 7+ hours fixed. They concluded it was a "sim" issue and sent a new sim which was guaranteed to deliver same-day or I would have gone to an ATT store before a major ice storm started - FedEx tracking sent later that day (too late for icy roads) takes 2 days for delivery. I saved the transcript the promises of same-day delivery. Unacceptable when you cannot make or receive calls on the phone THEY provided to work through the shutdown. No 911. The last support agent said "I'll take that under advisement, wait for the sim" I finally put the sim into an iphone and what do you know - it immediately worked for voice calls. So it is not the sim, but the phone they sent that caused 2+ days of work issues and no emergency services on the phone.

I have the same issue. I just went to an AT&T store by me and the worker said they've had about 40 people come in this week with the same exact issue. Can't make/receive calls, but texts and everything else work fine.

I have a Galaxy Fold 3 w/ First Net Service. I received my last phone call about 21 hours ago. Nothing since then.

Did they fix the issue for you or say what caused?

Hello @TXSissy11, we want to look further into your concerns regarding your Samsung Note 9 device and why you're unable to make or receive calls.

Just to confirm that your device isn't apart of the 3G shut down, please make sure you have one of the following device models:

  • Galaxy Note9 (N960U*, N960U1*)

Next, you'll need to proceed with any further troubleshooting steps to get your device back working properly:

  1. Reset your device. (Perform a soft, factory, or alternate master reset of your device.
  2. Updated the software on your device.
  3. Troubleshoot your device with our Device Support Tool. (Just sign in, and start troubleshooting for a personalized experience.)

Feel free to reach back out and let us know if these steps helped and if you're still unable to make or receive calls.

Thanks for reaching out to the AT&T Community!

Unfortunately, none of the troubleshooting steps worked; resets, software updates, changing network status, changing sim.

@TXSissy11

What software update is showing on the phone?

It's likely that phone is a refurbished device. That means it may have Parts in it that are not originally from an AT&T phone and therefore are not connecting. You would have been better off with one of their brand new cheap prepaid phones. At least we know those do work.

i have the exact same issue, my daughters phone is listed on AT&T as a phone that will continue to work after the shutdown, but it no longer works, it is an LG G8X ThinQ (LM-G850UM)...  it has the same issues as all the other posters...  however now it no longer connects at all, so it no longer texts anymore...  all it says is emergency calls only...   it is the phone, because the sim chip works fine when i insert it into my phone, but will not work in in LG G8X ThinQ (LM-G850UM)....

@rjm1965

AT&T hasn't provided a good description of what is covered by these lists (there are two).

The phone you have listed will work if it is an AT&T branded device. I assume it is not. The only unlocked non carrier-branded phones are the ones that are listed here:

Non carrier branded, unlocked phones

If your phone has another carriers boot screen, it's not compatible
