Error Invalid Number. Please re-send using a valid 10 digit mobile number or valid short code

Last week my texts I sent to my daughter started coming back to me with this message. I have been successfully texting her with her stored contact info from this phone for a couple years. We are on a shared AT&T plan. I have an LG K20 and she has an older iPhone. For a few days after this started I could manually type her 10 digit phone number in, rather than use her stored contact info, and get the text through that way. Now, no matter what I do I am getting that same error message and can't text her at all. Today I tried these steps from AT&T as listed on this site and still can't text her:

I’d be happy to help with this messaging error! This will be due to the device storing the number incorrectly. Please do the following to resolve the issue:

Delete texts from both old number and new

Delete any call logs including these numbers

Delete old number from contacts

Delete new number from contacts

Restart device

Send text to the new number directly (do not save as contact)

Once the text sends successfully, you can then save as a new contact

Any suggestions on what I can try next? This is very frustrating. I text my daughter more than I text anyone else.

We'd be more than happy to take a closer look into why you're unable to successfully send text messages to your daughter.

 

We'll need some more details in order for us to better assist you:

  • Have you already made sure that you're sending these text messages to the correct phone number, and that she hasn't recently changed to a new phone number?
  • Are you still able to call your daughter, using the phone number that you've been trying to send these text messages to?
  • Is your daughter still able to successfully send you text messages?
  • Also, are any of her other contacts reporting this same issue when they try to send her text messages?

Hi. Thanks for getting back to me. Yes, it's definitely her correct number. Yes, I can call her at that number both as a stored contact or manually entering in the number. She sends me messages no problem. Nobody else has had problems texting her that she's aware of.

My husband is also on our plan and he can text/call her with no problems and my other daughter can text her no problem using the TextNow app.

Thank you for letting us know.

 

Because this now seems to be an issue with your cell phone and not her specific phone number, we recommend that you first Backup the data on your cell phone, then Perform a factory data reset by following the steps at the links provided.

 

Once that's been completed, please try sending her a new text message to see if that resolved the issue.

 

You can then follow the remaining steps at the first link we sent you, to restore your cell phone's data from the backup that you've saved.

Your contacts are likely backed up to your Google account at Contacts.Google.com. I suggest you go there and delete your daughter's contact. Then make sure her contact is deleted from your phone as well. Reboot your phone and set up your daughter as a new contact.

I am having the same problem with my landscapers phone number. I have done all the suggested fixes and it's still not fuctioning properly
