Galaxy S5 6.0.1 boot loop issue

Recenbtly, AT&T pushed an OTA "Security and Performance update" to my phone. Now, my phone will load the Samsung Galaxy S5 splash screen, the screen goes blank and then nothing. I have tried clearing the cache, I have tried removing the battery and waiting, I have tried loading to safe mode based on instructions I have found online. My phone is out of warranty, so sending it in or taking it to AT&T to be fixed is out of the question. Is my only choice at this point to do a factory reset? Which I already did once a week ago? The phone is not damaged at all. It has spent its life in my otter box. Also, is there a way in the future to stop the updates?

Hello @Johnnyc84,

I am sorry your Galaxy S5 is giving you a boot loop issue. I will be glad to help share some options with you!

Normally warranty would be an excellent option so you can get a working device. The second option would be reaching out to Samsung to see about repair options. Samsung also have workshops where you can take the device in to have it looked at, you can locate one near you here.

Updates are important in helping the device stay current with the network and applications. Attempting to factory reset can be an option to get the device up and running again. If you use Google as a backup service in your phone some of your information would be saved there. You can login to your Gmail account on Google and view things such as contacts and photos, which may be saved already.

Our Device Support page can help walk you through factory resetting the phone. Once you choose your make and model, choose Tutorials > Troubleshooting > Reset Device > since your device is not allowing you past the splash screen, begin from step ten to begin the reset.

I hope this helps!
