Is AT&T going to update the LG G5 to Android 7.1 or 8.0?

Since receiving the Android 7.0 Nougat OTA updates from AT&T, my phone has been slower and the battery life has been awful. I used to get 3-4 hours screen time but since the 7.0 updates I can barely get 2 hours. Factory reset doesn't help. I feel like Android 7.0 is an unfinished product, and from what I've read 7.1 fixes many of the problems. I would like to know if AT&T plans to update this phone to 7.1 or 8.0/ Android O in the future.

I will probably switch carriers if AT&T plans to leave our phones this way and won't give us any way to downgrade to Android 6.0.1.

You can't downgrade an Android phone and the carrier has nothing to do with that. It's the manufacturers who dictate that. It's just not possible to go back, on any device on any carrier.

LG will have to sign and release 7.1 for that device before AT&T can push the update out. They haven't yet, for any version of the G5. AT&T's hand are tied until LG releases it.

Of course you can downgrade. I did it before with LG Flash Tool on my AT&T LG G3 to downgrade it with an original AT&T LG G3 (D850) .TOT file.

AT&T can give us the original Android 6.0.1 .TOT file for the LG G5 ( H820) any time.

We need it ASAP.

Even if they do the phone will auto update anyway. Updates are forced after 3 rejections.

Automatic updates will be prevented if you enable USB debugging on the device, connect it to ADB on your computer, then disable Software Update with Gatesjunior's (over @ XDA) Debloater tool. Of course that's another problem with this 7.0 update; the Debloater tool is not compatible with Nougat, while Marshmallow was.

AT&T's LG G5 really sucks with the 7.0 update. There's no sugar-coating that.

Yo tengo un G5 h820 y la verdad actualizo a 7.0 y me da de 430 a 5 hrs de pantallas. Leí en un artículo que pronto vendrá 7.1.2 para el LG G5

At&t you just roll over lay there & let lg dictate bloatware, crappy ui, slow fixes. But why should you care? Bc At&t you are supposed to provide premium service and that includes  that the equipment build for your $ervice doesn't have these kinds of issues.
