LG G4 boot loop warranty replacement phone

Hi, I got a new LG G4 phone in March 2016 and last week, it got the dreaded LG Boot loop issue. Mine is a business account phone and talked to the AT&T support and today I received a replacement LG G4 phone. When I checked the IMEI number in the imeidata.net website of the replacement phone, found that the phone is manufactured in May 23, 2015.

Question :

I believe the phones manufactured in this batch (505 series) also has the problem. Can someone confirm from which manufacturing date the LG fixed the hardware issue ? Also, why AT&T is sending old phones with known problem as replacements than the one which does not have the problem ?

Hi @sundarms!

I totally understand the worry and I apologize for that happening on your last LG G4 phone!

Has the replacement phone been working fine for you? The Android 6.0 Marshmallow software update released on February 9, 2016 should resolve the boot loop issue. If you’re unable to complete the software update due to phone already being in the boot loop error, you are able to process a warranty exchange.

When there is a warranty replacement processed, it will be for a like-for-like device. If there are LG G4s available, one will be sent out.

If you have any other questions, feel free to reach back out to me through this post! If you have any issues with the current replacement, please don’t hesitate to let me know and I can see what we can do to get this resolved for you! Take care and have a great week!

Hi Kevin,

Thanks much for your reply. Yes, I have the latest software update in the phone which I got as replacement. It is just a day since I got it. So far it is fine. But my main worry is that my older phone was also in the same software level (Marshmellow 6.0, I had the July 1st update too) and yet it encountered the reboot loop issue. That makes me wonder the issue could reappear in the replacement phone too. As far as I know, LG fixed the issue through hardware (motherboard change) in later G4 builds and hence I was asking about from which batch of manufacturing of G4 the issue got addressed at the hardware level.

My software version in the phone (which was also the one I had in my older phone which got bricked)

Android version: 6.0

Android Security Patch level : 2016-07-01

Baseband Version: MPSS.BO.2.5.c3-00128-M8992FAAAANAZM-1.50758.1
Kernel Version: 3.10.84
Build Number: MRA58K
Software Version: H81021z

regards,

sundar

@sundarms

I can totally understand. I can suggest contacting LG directly for that information regarding the manufactured batch the replacement device came from. To reach out to them, it can be done by phone at 800-793-8896.

If you ever have trouble with that replacement phone, just get back to me here. Take care!
