LG velvet att branded phone not updating

Hello,

I have an att branded LG velvet phone that I bought in the states and then moved to Canada. It's still on Android 10. LG confirmed that any failure to update is because att is blocking it. Correctly so, non att branded LG velvet phones are getting upgraded. Why is ATT blocking upgrades to my phone? It creates an information security risk for me and should I lose data or worse personal information is comprised, I intend to take appropriate legal action.

Please remove restrictions on att branded LG velvet to avoid such situations.

LG confirmed that any failure to update is because att is blocking it.

And how would they be doing that?  Did they build an wall at the Canadian border through which LG software updates may not pass?

I will say that if you have an AT&T-branded device and are expecting OTA updates for that device, AT&T requires that a device receiving OTA updates from them be (a) able to connect to their network and (b) able to connect to Wi-Fi.  In much of Canada (a) is not possible (near the US border it could be done).  This isn't AT&T "blocking" the update, it's you not fulfilling the requirements for that update.

I intend to take appropriate legal action.

Legal discussions are not allowed on these community forums per the guidelines you agreed to when you signed up for an account.  That said, appropriate legal action for failure to provide you software updates in another country for a phone well beyond its expected lifetime is to forget the whole thing and purchase something made in this decade.

There is no legal requirement to be on att network for an locked phone. Att is blocking the phone update as rest of the phones are getting updated.

Legal responsibility is not disposed off simply when someone moves to another country. I bought the unlocked phone with the intention of using it as I choose. Not with the intention of getting back on att network. So yes, att is legally responsible. Enough users of att are impacted by this issue and att is responsible. Unlock LG velvet att branded phones else there is contingent legal liability for att which may materialize

And lastly as far as building a wall is considered, any reasonably literate tech person which I assume att has many in their tech team, would know that's not how updates work. Height of stupidity

You completely missed the point.

Please read the answer again.   It's correct.  Att branded androids only update OTA (over the air).   That is when connected to the AT&t network, in the USA, using an at&t SIM and service.

   It's just fact.

It's been discussed for YEARS.

Any updating you choose to do is up to you.  But not a discussion allowed on this forum  - if you get my drift

Clearly.  And he doesn't recognize sarcasm, either.

No sorry. I think you didn't get what I was saying. Every phone is ota updated. Nothing special about att phones. If att has a long standing practice of not allowing it otherwise then it should be disclosed upfront. It's not reasonable to expect a user to know ATT company's long standing practice without disclosure. Att is liable.

Carriers may provide an OTA update service for phones they sell.  Manufacturers may provide their own services for phones they sell.  The OTA mechanism supported by this carrier-branded phone that you purchased from AT&T is AT&T's OTA mechanism, which requires the phone be able to talk to the AT&T carrier network.  If you had purchased a carrier unlocked variant of a phone, then you'd be subject to that manufacturer's OTA process and its requirements.

Your phone is 4 years old and years out of warranty.  Even if you got the most recent load for your phone available, it's years old. There is no legal theory that makes this (Edited per community guidelines) worthy.  Buck up, buttercup and get a new phone or live with the software you've got.

Well (Edited per community guidelines) face if you are that rich then send money and I will get a new phone. Whether it's 4werk or 4 year has no bearing on att responsibility. I bought an unlocked phone not locked to att or ATT ota update process

No my dude, you bought a phone that boots with the AT&T boot screen.

It is never completely free of AT&T.  Unless you do something to it that rhymes with boot but begins with the letter r. Like I implied earlier.

Until then it is always essentially an AT&T phone.  Designed by LG to work on the AT&T network, to get updates from AT&T servers forever and ever

You not knowing this is not your fault. You continuing to abuse customers or former customers who have given you the truth is your fault, and not to be tolerated because it's against the guidelines that you agree to when you signed up to use this forum

Buh bye
