No Longer Receiving 5G+ at home

About a week ago I noticed I was no longer receiving a 5G+ connection at home. I checked the coverage map and I am in a 5G+ service area and am currently receiving 5G connection at home. I do receive 5G+ away from home. I am using an Galaxy S22. My software is up to date and I tried resetting the network connection. The problem is on AT&T's end as I have been receiving 5G+ for a year and a half an get a 5G+ connection away from home.

Coverage maps need to be taken with a grain of salt. There are always holes in the coverage, or holes that appear after a period of time due to tower saturation, maintenance, etc.

Thanks for response. I was receiving 5G+ so maybe cell tower problem or bandwidth use in my neighborhood.

Hello @gordg3,

We hear you, and appreciate the troubleshooting steps that you have completed. Let's try more troubleshooting to get a better connectivity.

SIM Card and Network MSIM Card and Network Mode:

  • Ensure that your SIM card is properly inserted and activated. Sometimes a loose SIM card can cause connectivity problems.
  • Double-check your network mode settings. If you’re not getting 5G, try switching to “LTE/4G” or “3G” temporarily to see if you get a better signal. Then switch back to 5G.

Remember that 5G availability can be affected by various factors, including your location, device compatibility, and network congestion. Please feel free to contact us if the issue persists.

@gordg3

Do you still get at least "4G-LTE"?

Then it's just the tower's 5G emitter either overloaded or temporarily down and the other taking over.

Just give it some time. Could be a few days... could be a couple of months.

Stopped today at the local AT&T store. They indicated AT&T began throttling 5G+ connections about 3 weeks ago. They said to get a more consistent G+ connection you need to have "network prioritization" which is $7 additional a month. Has anyone heard of this?

EDIT: called AT&T Turbo(SM)

Yes. When the network is congested due to overuse, prioritized services will have better data speeds until the network gets back to "normal". 5G+ is still relatively new so it's not surprising that it gets congested faster. The prioritized bands are called QC6, QC7, QC8, and QC9. QC6 is reserved for FirstNet users. However, how well that works I don't know. Do you have any problems with LTE or 5Ge (enhanced LTE)?

No, always receive 5G connection. 5G+ dropped off especially at home even during non-peak hours (midnight). Was consistently getting 5G+ up until 2 weeks ago.

Do you really need 5G+ if 5G is not an issue? Does sound like a saturation issue or possibly maintenance.

The cynic in me tells me that AT&T created a problem by developing a solution that people could buy to prevent the problem from happening to them.

Now people who don't buy the solution will be given the problem by other people who purchase that solution.
