No Longer With AT&T, How Do I Update My Phone?

A couple years ago, I got an HTC One (M8) with AT&T as my upgrade. Last spring, I switched to Google Fi, and got a Nexus 5X. Now it seems that I'm unable to update my HTC One (M8), since it's not connected to AT&T anymore, and I can't update via the normal Android settings. The only solutions I know of are loading a fresh version of Android from scratch, or rejoining AT&T, but I really don't have any interest in either of those.

Sorry. I think you're going to need to do one of those two things that you don't want to do.

I'm really hoping this reply was an accident, since it's not helpful, and actually kind of spam.

Edit: I don't know if the message this was in response to was edited, but I was only able to see "Sorry" as the previous reply, and no other text.

The reply you received was in direct response to your post, and it was accurate, e.g., the two things that you stated you did not want to do are the available options for your issue.

@Lilybell2 @lizdance40 Can somewhere like Best Buy can't do an update for something like this? I was thinking I've seen that mentioned in the past for some other brands...

How about popping in a friend's AT&T SIM to get the update?

@Gary L Popping in a friend's AT&T SIM card might enable the phone to receive available updates.  Best Buy has in-store kiosks available, such as the Samsung Experience Centers, but I have not heard of one being provided for HTC.
