Pantech P9060 will not allow me to sign into existing google account

Every time I try to set up my google account on the phone I get an error that the username and password are incorrect. They are NOT incorrect, I've made absolutely sure a number of times. How do I get my google account set up on this phone?

At&t has nothing to do with Google user IDs, and cannot help you.

BTW, you can't use that phone on AT&T.

It's 2g and 3g only.  AT&T no longer has a 2G network, and its 3-g network is in the process of shutting down. If you try to activate that phone on AT&T your account will be suspended until you replace the phone.

Well, those are completely unhelpful comments. I was having the same issue. Just wanted to set up an old phone for my kids to play with, and I'm getting the same error. So if anyone actually knows the answer, I'd appreciate it myself.

It's a Pantech phone using an OS made by Google and you're having issues with an Authentication system provided by Google, that will not work on AT&T services.

Yet you come to an AT&T board (instead of a Pantech or Google/Android/Gmail board) and ask this question and seem incensed that the answer is not freely available here?
