Pixel phones: Why not AT&T?

It's been recently announced that the OTHER major carriers will be selling the Pixel line of phones.  Why not AT&T?

And why does it matter?

You can buy with installments from google and have an unlocked phone, with full At&t benefits, including Wifi calling and VoLTE.

If anything, you’ve been done a favor.

@lizdance40 : Is Pixel 3A compatibility with Wi-Fi calling on AT&T confirmed?  "Bring Your Own Device" is listed on https://www.att.com/buy/phones/?taxoFeatures=Wi-Fi-CALLING , so it seems likely, but has anyone actually said yes, it works?  (If so, then that's an easy choice.)

My goodness. Such arrant derision for a viable question that was directed toward an actual AT&T representative. Mayhap I should have prefaced my missive with "ATTN: AT&T Employees"? 🤔
I am acutely aware of Google's options for procuring a Pixel device (I would be remiss if I didn't mention Best Buy's $100 off promotion).
Nor did I allude to actually wanting to purchase a Pixel device. I merely queried why AT&T did not follow suit on a relatively popular device.

But thank you for your acrimonious input.

This is a customer populated forum, not AT&T.  So it’s unlikely you are going to get an informed comment from “an actual AT&T representative”

Additionally, who makes those selections?  And can you expect that person/group of people to respond here?  Ah, extremely unlikely.  You have a better chance of winning power ball.  This is minions here.

Acrimonious?  No.   Bemused yes.   Why anyone would prefer to buy locked, perhaps bogged down with carrier software, slow updates?   Oh, no.   The only reason it’s been a successful phone is google has retained control as Apple does with iPhone.  Verizon doesn’t lock phones, T-mo is live and let live.

At&t can’t do that, not their style.

I can absolutely guarantee the response from ATTCares would look something like:

” thank you for inquiring about AT&T phones. The Google pixel is certainly an interesting device. If you would like to see what AT&T has to offer I encourage you to follow this link to the sales page… Or call AT&T and we will be happy to help you placing an order for a new phone when you’re ready to upgrade”.

Or you can call and get an answer like this guy:   https://forums.att.com/t5/Other-Phones-Devices/Blackberry-Key2/m-p/5583215?advanced=false&collapse_discussion=true&filter=location&location=forum-board:gsmgprs&q=Will%20At&t%20sell%20blackberry%20key%202&search_type=thread

It is!   One of our Aces is a developer and has a 3a in his stable already and confirms it works as well as the Pixel 3/3xl.  It is currently the only non carrier android to get its foot in the door with both VoLTE and WiFi calling.

What doesn’t work in googles built in VVM.   You have to download and use the AT&T app for that. Works on my son’s Pixel 3xl.  I have my pixel on Verizon prepaid, which can’t use VVM at all.

For the price the 3a is the only phone I will recommend unless someone is a power user to the hilt.  The phone is snappy and works.  I only had a sim in the phone for about 2 hours but I did try a wifi call and it worked but your millage may very.  I am not using the phone as a daily driver I hate to say my iPhone xs max has that honor.  And that is only because of apple watch.
