Straight up lieing saying too many unlock request and to wait 30 days. This is absolutely 100% false. Is Att serious?

I have had a cheap phone sitting dormant in the corner for a year now and decided to get a cheap prepaid plan on it. When I went to unlock it. At&t said this device has had too many unlock attempts and to try again in 30 days.

This is completely a straight up lie. It was literally sitting there doing nothing. Does at&t just straight up lie to consumers in order to keep phones locked. This is absolutely absurd and disgusting.

If it hasn't been used in so long, make sure you are using the option for not having a number so it searches by the IMEI only. It is also possible it is just a database error since the phone hasn't been used in so long that it is not properly recognized.

I would give it until within normal business hours, in case any nightly maintenance caused the problem. But if it still doesn't work then you either way past the 30 days or call AT&T to see if they can research the IMEI manually. And not impossible someone was trying to unlock a phone recently but fat fingered the info so was putting in yours instead of theirs.

But no, their computers are not there to lie to you. Either something was wrong with the submission or there is technical issue with the unlock process that needs to be fixed.

Is the phone in question an AT&T USA branded phone? If it's not, why would it even be locked to AT&T and why would you be asking AT&T to unlock it? AT&T can only lock AT&T USA phones that are locked to AT&T USA (phone's sold and locked to AT&T Mexico can only be unlocked by AT&T Mexico)

If the phone is branded and sold by a different network, you have to have that network unlock a phone.

If the phone is an AT&T USA phone, but hasn't been used in a year, it's IMEI is  not registered in the database. So the reason for that error is they're waiting for the phone to register in the database - because you're using it on AT&T.

Are you using it on AT&T?

If the phone isn't AT&T branded and locked phone,  You don't need to carrier unlock it to add service to it. But you may need to use it with an AT&T SIM card for to register in their database and qualify to be unlocked.
