Hi @Benwalk2!

Oh no! I’m sorry to hear that you’re currently not getting any sound on the text message notifications! I can totally understand the annoyance, I know I live solely through my text messages and not knowing if one has come in can cause a bit of frustration! Let’s take a look and see what might be the cause!

It does seem as you have already taken to a bit of troubleshooting, that’s great! Are you able to hear sound from all other parts of the phone such as videos, games, phone calls, just not the text messages?

There are a few locations on the phone where you can check the notification sound settings:

  1. System Level- Go into Settings > Sounds and vibrations > Notification sound > Default notification sound and Messages notifications. From here, make sure that the sounds are configured correctly as you would like them.
  2. Messages Application- Go into the Messages app that you are using > In the upper right corner, select More (may appear as Settings) > Settings > Notifications. Check the notification sounds and make sure those are all enabled.
  3. Contact Level- Some messaging apps allow you to set custom notification sounds per contact. If you have Silent or None selected for that contact, it will not play the notification sound regardless if the other two are configured correctly.

If you are still having issues after checking all of these settings, you can clear the cache of the Messaging app on the phone.

You can troubleshoot the app by going to Settings > Device > Applications > Application manager and scrolling down until you find the Messages app. Select it, from there select "Storage" followed by "Clear Cache" then "Clear Data". This will not delete any saved messages, it will however clear out any custom backgrounds and custom notification ringtones configured. After this step reboot the phone and verify if the issue persists.

Hope this gets the notification sounds configured for you and back up and running! Let us know how it goes! Take care and have a wonderful rest of the week!

I completed all of the steps above and my message notifications are still not sounding. Have you found any other actions that may help?

Oh no, @! Let's look into why incoming text messages aren't prompting the notification on your device.

If the instructions provided above didn't help, try resolving your device' trend by clearing the system cache.

  1. Power off your Galaxy S6 Active.
  2. Press and hold Power, the Volume Up and the Home buttons.
  3. Once the recovery menu loads, use the Volume Down button to scroll and highlight Wipe Cache Partition.
  4. Use the Power button to select and begin clearing the cache.
  5. After Cache Partition is complete, your phone brings you back to the same screen. Press Power to restart phone. Test the results.

This action clears all system caches stored in the directory, allowing your device system to run more smoothly. However, before beginning the process, it's a great idea to backup your storage.

Use our Device Support Tool to learn how to do just that! After selecting your device's make and model choose Backup & storage. Whichever option you decide to select (AT&T Mobile Transfer, Backup & restore with Google, Backup & restore with computer, etc.) simply follow the directions to save your files elsewhere.

Hope this helps! Let us know how this worked for you!

@Pooger  This is a 3 yr old thread.  Please start your own thread accurately describing your problem in more detail in the correct forum.  Is it a cell phone, or a cordless home phone?  The wireless forums are for cell phones.
