text messages not received from verizon / xfinity customers who have an android

I have contacted AT&T repeatedly.  I am not receiving texts from my contacts who have an android and are Verizon or Xfinity clients.  They can send me a text message with a picture attached and it will come through.  Somehow, Verizon initiated a port request from ATT to Verizon even though there was never one requested.

It has been over two months and I have clients who are unable to reach out to me.

Should I file a complaint with the FCC.  It seems like AT&T and Verizon are just blaming each other and not fixing the problem.  If I can receive a text when a picture is sent at the same time, it seems like this shouldn't be too hard to fix.  T-Mobile is sounding like a better option every day.

What phone are you using? And what application are you using to receive and send text messages?

Are you able to send text messages to those people?

You say Verizon received a port request for your phone number?

That's actually concerning. Verizon may have to cancel the port request.  You may have to file an FCC complaint against both. As an AT&T customer you can ask for advanced tech support to assist you

Thanks for your response…. I have had advanced tech in the phone for a 2 hour marathon and that was about 8 weeks ago.

Verizon did cancel the port request.  I didn’t know it had happened until I had this problem.

I have an apple.  They can get a text from me, but I can’t receive one from them.  My mother in law texted me about a death in the family and I never received the message.  Luckily she followed up with a phone call when she did t hear back from me.

It’s just a big mess.

Hello skroger, we're here to help look into why your text messages are not being received from verizon / xfinity customers who have an android.

Try these basic message troubleshooting, as this could just be a simple network or app issue that's causing this:

  • Restart your device. This is a very quick way to refresh your connection and is a quick method to troubleshoot network issues like this.
  • Turn Wi-Fi off, and mobile data on, then use the internet. This lets you know if you have a connection or not.
  • Check your messaging settings, to make sure your device can sent and receive texts:
    • iOS device: Go to Settings > Message > iMessage, and turn it off and back on.
    • Android device: Go to Settings > Advanced Messaging and turn it off and back on. If iMessage is in your settings, turn it off as you won't be able to receive them on an Android device.
  • Clear your messaging app's cache. This might be an issue with the app itself, and clearing the cache is a quick way to troubleshoot it.
  • Force stop the app. Apps often run in the background even if they're closed, so issues may continue if you reopen them. Force stopping an app completely stops it from running in the background, which can help if the app is experincing errors.

If you have recently ported from Verizon this may be the reason you're not receiving the text messages. You'll want to contact the Porting Activation Center again to confirm if your port over was succesfully performed. They can be reached at 888.898.7685

Also, resetting your network settings refreshes your connection to the network. Try resolving your experience by resetting the network settings.

Thank you for trying Jessica.  I have tried the first three suggestions several times.  When I clicked on the app cache link it to me to an android device for help and I'm on an iPhone.  I didn't see that in the iphone help area.

I have been an AT&T customer since 2004 and never requested to port my number to Verizon.

I have an outstanding ticket number with tech support but no-one seems to be able to fix the issue.
