Texts messages, with my cell #, are showing up on a friends cell phone and I didnt send anything!

I received a call from my friend, who was exceptionally worried about me, late at night. She said she had received numerous sequential alarming texts from me!

The first text "from me" said, "I need help", then another text showing the location of my home (correctly) on Google maps. The next text "from me" was a 5 second sound byte of someone's footsteps, and nothing else.

Following that text were 2 blank/black photos. Next came the text, "SOS", and again another text showing the location of my home  (correctly) on Google maps!!

I sent no such texts!! I was in bed and there was NO EMERGENCY!!!

She was frantic and called me, worried, wanting to make sure I was alright!! She was on the verge of calling 911 to have the police come to my home.....if I had been sound asleep and hadn't answered, she would've called the police to ensure my safety.

She sent me screen shots of it all, so I could see exactly what she received....

This is VERY CREEPY to me! To hack/spoof my cell number is one thing....to send frightening texts in the middle of the night is an entirely different can of worms!!

What can I do? This is a very serious and scary matter to me.

Whoever did this had my name, my address, and my phone number...as well as my friends name and cell number....

I'm feeling rather violated.

Anyone else have an issue like this?

What do I do to fix this?

Not sure what you can do to fix or stop it but I’d report this to the police. What you describe is not only creepy, it’s criminal.

This happened to me as well... Twice. It's actually not anyone messing with your phone. It's a "feature" on the phone in settings titled Send SOS Messages. If it's flipped on in settings, it triggers when you press the home quickly 3 times. There is an option to automatically attach a front and rear picture taken at the time you trigger it, as well as an option to automatically record and send a real time sound bite. It also sends the SOS texts to some of your contacts. Idk how it decides the first time who to send it to without you setting it up but when it happened to me it sent it to my mom, dad, bf. I'm guessing it maybe chooses those you correspond with most. Go to settings, search SOS and it'll take you to the settings page. You can then toggle it off. Hope this helps.

@Corrines11 If it was this SOS feature, wouldn’t the sent texts be on the OP’s phone? The OP specifically said “I sent no such texts” which I interpret to also mean they weren’t on the phone.

They did not show up in my texts either. Everything she said happened to her happened to me. The pics were even black too, probably because it was in my pocket. All the specific content items in the texts sent are options to choose from on that settings page. The second time it happened to me, I tested it by doing it once on purpose (by pressing home button 3 times) with  all those settings toggled on, and once with the whole thing toggled off. With it on, it sent the whole deal to my people again. With it off, it did nothing. That's how I made it stop. By yeah, I had no texts sent by me in my messages either. I suppose it's possible someone hacked it and triggered it remotely. Some of those hackers are pretty tricky.
