Unlock bootloader on AT&T motorola.

Greetings, I have an older pre-paid motorola device I am no longer using and would like to unlock the bootloader. I went through the steps on the Motorola site and was informed my device was ineligible for unlocking the bootloader (due to being a carrier locked phone).

I went through the AT&T unlock request platform and received an unlock code. In the steps to unlock the phone to any carrier, it has the step: "Insert the SIM card from another wireless carrier". Is this step skippable in anyway? I do not have an alternate sim card and do not plan to use this phone off of wi-fi.

On the same note, has anyone previously carrier unlocked their phone, then successfully unlocked the bootloader? When I tried following the bootloader instructions to unlock the bootloader (using the code provided from Motorola via AT&Ts unlock service) I got the error "code validation failure with status 7". I assume the code to unlock the phone from the carrier is different from the code to unlock the bootloader.

If anyone has had a similar experience and knows the best steps to rectify, please let me know and thank you for your help and patience!

Carrier unlocking phone has absolutely nothing to do with the bootloader. All it does is make your phone capable of accepting a SIM card from a non AT&T, but compatible provider. AT&T cannot unlock the bootloader, and will not even pay attention to a bootloader unlock request.

Most bootloaders are both locked and encrypted by the manufacturer post Android 5.

If you want an unlocked boot, you have to purchase a phone that comes that way.
