Using International GSM Phone

Hello,

I am an international student at an American university and am looking into using AT&T with a Romanian phone from the Allview brand. If my phone works on the curent frequencies:

2G: 850/900/1800/1900MHz
3G: UMTS 900/2100MHz

Will it have coverage in Poughkeepsie, NY ZipCode 12604?

P.S. I know AT&T operates on 850/1900MHZ 2G but I also know they are looking to get rid of the 2G band and are starting in New York so I'd like to know if this phone would work.

According to the https://www.att.com/maps/reseller.html the 12604 does not yet require a 3G/4G phone, so 2G should be working.

Okay but at some point in 2016 the phone won't work anymore, correct?

I'm sorry, I don't know what AT&T plans are with regards to phasing out 2G coverage. It is certainly a possibility and if you're thinking about that phone as a long-term solution I would advise against it. I thought you were talking about a short(ish) visit, like one semester or something.
