"We'll send you a pin to verify number" pop up

Samsung Note 8

Since I restarted my phone this morning, I'm getting a full page pop up, white in color, with a heading stating "We'll send you a PIN to verify number". Then again in smaller script the same words "We'll send you a PIN to verify number" and a box that says "Enter AT&T phone number". I instantly feel this is a hacker attempt and a Facebook search shows others have begun to post about getting this too. How can I handle this and clear it from popping up on my device?

....It's AT&T Mobile Security.  There is zero indication that the request comes from that app, I just happened to click on it.  It’s a perfectly designed popup if you’re looking to swindle people out of their information.  Congrats to the developers and those involved in approving its release.  Screenshot attached.

I'm confused...so this is a scam? I just entered my number and they sent me a code after it...entered the code and then nothing happened. Hmmmm

How does one get rid of this annoying error?  It keeps popping up.

It's not a scam.   The ATT Mobile Security app is trying to verify your number.   Open it, veirfy and it goes away.

Why does at&t, after having my number for around 20 years, need to verify it.  Neither my husband or my mom, who are on the same plan as me, have received these messages.

Yes, I agree. My husband received this message and I did not. We have
identical phones on ATT on a shared plan. Seems very suspicious and ATT
really should notify their customers that they're doing this so we don't'
all think it is fraud, as we do now.

I called AT&T support and they guy knew nothing about it.  Told me it's probably a scam and to call Motorola.  Pretty pathetic.
