Why is it that when someone calls me they are getting a busy signal?

My mother and I talk daily.  Lately she has not been able to reach me because when she calls all she gets is a busy signal.  It doesn't even go to voicemail.  My phone is on, the ringer is on, and I'm not on the phone when she is calling.  We've tested it while on other phones (my work phone and home phone).  It doesn't matter if she calls using her landline or AT&T cell phone.  (We are both on AT&T).

Hi @KMac_32! We understand how frustrating it can be when incoming calls result in a busy signal, especially when you’re expecting important calls from loved ones. Let’s troubleshoot this issue together.

Here are some reasons and solutions:

Airplane Mode: Ensure that your phone is not in airplane mode. Sometimes, accidentally enabling airplane mode can prevent incoming calls. To check, follow these steps:
On Android, swipe down from the top of your screen to access the Quick Settings panel. Look for the airplane mode icon and make sure it’s turned off.
On iPhone, go to Settings > Airplane Mode and toggle it off.
Blocked Contacts: Verify that you haven’t accidentally blocked your mother’s number. Blocked contacts can result in a busy signal for the caller. Check your phone’s settings to see if her number is blocked.
Call Barring or Call Forwarding: These features can affect incoming calls. Make sure you haven’t enabled call barring or call forwarding on your SIM card. You can adjust these settings in your phone’s call settings menu.
Network Signals: Sometimes network issues can cause busy signals. Try resetting your network signals:
On Android, go to Settings > Network & Internet > Mobile network > Advanced > Reset network settings.
On iPhone, go to Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings.
Do Not Disturb Mode: Check if you’ve accidentally enabled Do Not Disturb mode. When active, it silences all incoming calls. Disable it if necessary:
On Android, go to Settings > Sound > Do Not Disturb.
On iPhone, go to Settings > Do Not Disturb.
Call Auto-Rejecting: Some phones have an auto-reject feature. Make sure it’s turned off:
On Android, go to Phone app > Settings > Blocked numbers.
On iPhone, go to Settings > Phone > Call Blocking & Identification.
Display Over Other Apps: Verify that your phone’s display settings allow incoming call notifications to appear:
On Android, go to Settings > Apps > [Your Phone App] > App notifications.
On iPhone, go to Settings > Notifications > [Your Phone App].
Restart Your Device: Sometimes a simple restart can resolve connectivity issues. Turn off your phone, wait a few seconds, and then turn it back on.

We hope, one of these steps will help to resolve the busy signal problem, please feel free to reach out to us if you have any further questions/concerns.
