ATT won't unlock phone, misleading error. "Oops! Looks like we're having network difficulties."

Looks like ATT deleted my post that's identical as this. Browser cached it so I copy pasted and posting again. Will keep going, I need my phone unlocked.

I have been dealing with this issue with ATT for a few days now. No one from my family can reach because of this issue and ATT is no help. My device is paid off, was on att for years. Everytime I go to the device unlock portal and fill out my information, ATT throws this error: "Oops! Looks like we're having network difficulties. Try again later."

I kept trying and then it said too many unlock attempts, try again in 24 hours. So I try again in 24 hours and I get the same network error. Really ATT??? A network company having "network" errors for 3 days in a row. And this isn't just me, there are hundreds of complaints on this in their forums lasting months on end.

I called in and a guy told me he will put me into some emergency unlock protocol and I would get email confirmation in a maximum of one hour. You guessed it, nothing. For some reason other questions about this are "Solved" and all it is, is an ATT rep saying make sure your device is eligible and try again. That's not solved! The error isn't saying your device isn't eligible, it's saying network difficulties. I'm pretty sure this would have worked if I tried it before I switched to T-Mobile. This is pathetic and embarrassing ATT. You guys should be ashamed. If this is a real network issue, then it shouldn't be lasting for days on end. I work at a tech company and when one tiny feature breaks, we work our butts off to hotfix it. This is clearly a feature breaking bug.

Fix this. No one can reach me. If something happens, I can't even call the police. Are you kidding me????

I have Tried this in 4 different browsers with 4 different machines. Chrome, firefox, safari and even IE

AT&T, t-mobile and Verizon all have BYOD pages and all advise that you make sure your devise is unlocked before you switch.   Yes, it would have been much easier as a current customer as you could have called tech support.

You can file an FCC complaint and AT&T will contact you.

I checked all of that info before I switched. I've had my phone for at least a year and it's been paid off for at least 2. All of this has been on ATT. There is no reason why the site should be saying ""Oops! Looks like we're having network difficulties. Try again later.""

I have tried later, and so have hundreds of people. Same error. I refuse to believe that that error is accurate. For a billion(s) dollar company, this is a terrible user experience.

This is terrible error handling on their end, or they are purposely throwing that error with code in place to throw that error as a cop out. There is no error in the network console, everything appears to go through fine.

FCC route may be the only way to go.

What do you mean, “I've had my phone for at least a year and it's been paid off for at least 2.”.    Did you mean 2 months, or is this phone 2nd hand?

This was my fathers phone that he passed down to me a year after he had it. He paid for it in full at ATT like he does with all of his phones.
