Auto-reply vacation text OR receive texts/calls overseas
I am going on vacation and want to avoid the issue I had before where I missed many important work-related texts that left the sender no better aware of my out-of-range status.
So I need to set up a way to automatically have a text sent to the caller/texter informing that I am unavailable from when to when. Unfortunately the Do Not Disturb method apparently doesn’t work if the phone is out-of-range (which it will be, as I’m taking it with me).
Alternatively, and even better, it would be neat to be able to receive and respond to texts or calls sent to my US number while overseas.
I am using an iPhone 7, iOS 12.3.1 and AT&T prepaid.

There is no way to set up an automatic reply to texts when you are out of service range. Prepaid does not roam internationally so receiving or sending texts overseas won’t be possible unless you have WiFi calling enabled and it works from overseas. I know WiFi calling works from overseas with postpaid service but I’ve yet to see anyone with prepaid confirm.

Yes wifi calling (e.g. whatsapp) works on prepaid, but most of my work-related contacts do not use this and those that do have an account may not know to check on whatsapp/etc if they aren’t prompted to. Guess best bet is to temporarily switch to postpaid for roaming?

That won’t work either. Postpaid won’t allow roaming for at least 60 days. Not sure what you mean by your contacts don’t use that. I’m talking about ATT’s WiFi calling. When you are on WiFi calling, not WhatsApp, it is the same as being connected to a cell tower.

Ah right. According to the below thread wifi calling was added to prepaid recently, though may not work on all phones. Guess I’ll find out.
