GoPhone to Wireless Account

Hello

I'm having trouble moving my GoPhone number to my new wireless plan. I've called and spoken to various representatives, along with going to an At&T retailer. However, noone could really give me suggestions for my current situation.

I purchased an iPhone 7 through the online AT&T store - the purchase of a wireless plan was made. The plan includes paying off the iPhone 7 through installments every billing.

At the time, I was using an iPhone 6 on a GoPhone plan. Now that my iPhone 7 has come in, I'd like to have the phone number used on my GoPhone plan, to be used on my wireless plan. The iPhone 7 currently has a different number.

My current problem is - I was told that because I purchased the phone online, instead of in stores, my GoPhone number could not replaced the wireless plan's phone number. The only way this could happen apparently, is if I pay off the iPhone 7 and continue using the GoPhone account (just switching sim cards). However, that is not what I want to do. I want to keep paying the iPhone 7 in installments, but have my GoPhone number be my sole/only wireless number.

I was confused at first, not knowing that I could not do the switch. I assumed that 'transfer number' under the wireless tab of my at&t account meant porting a number over - but after checking the eligibility of my GoPhone number, it came out as unavailable. And so, here I am today, hoping for a remedy to my situation.

*I am currently in the process of porting my GoPhone number to sideline (app), in order to keep this number and avoid paying two phone bills - one for a GoPhone account and one for a wireless plan w/ iphone 7 installments account.

Thanks!

Hey Pango! I'll do my best to help you but I will say right off the bat that this is a tricky situation. I'll start by explaning what's happened in our system: when you purchase a phone or device on an installment plan, all of that information (agreement start/end date, payments made, payments remaining, etc) is tied to that phone number. When you change a phone number, it actually cancels that phone number/subscriber line in our system and copies over the features your phone line has to a new number (data plan, insurance plan, long distance calling plan, etc.), but not any contract or installment agreement info. That's why you were told that you can't port in your GoPhone number and replace your new, unwanted phone number with it: it would cancel the phone number and thus force the remaining balance of the installment plan to be paid.

The only thing I can think of to work around this issue is to return the phone and negate the installment plan that way, then port in the number then process the purchase of a new iPhone using that phone number. Most likely you're outside of that 14 day buyer's remorse period though, so you would need to call in and get a manager to approve this. That's something that I can't guarantee will happen, and is ultimately up to the discretion of the manager.

Another thing you can try is finding someone who's willing to buy the phone then pay off the phone, unlock it, sell it to them, and use the money towards a new iPhone purchased using your GoPhone number once it's ported in. I hope this helps you out!
