Iphone 4s replacement problem

I know this isn't an apple forum but Ive gone through too iphone 4s's that both had very bad software problems. First one was the one i had for more than a year and it was working perfectly fine until one night it just stopped working and I tried doing everything but it didnt budge. The second one was given to me by my aunt cause she had upgraded to a 5s but it eventually had wifi problems and now It's greyed out and I cant even use it anymore. I called apple to see if they could do anything but I was out of my one year warranty. So im asking what my best options would be since getting it fixed would cost 250 dollars out of my pocket, which I would be willing to pay if it was my fault but it was all software problems.

If the wifi suddenly quit working, how do you know it is a software problem and not a wifi chip that went bad?  You are quck to blame software for problems, but I question how software could cause yoru wifi to just quit working over night, or your first phone to just fail to restart?  I suspect that there might have been some hardware issue in at least one of those.

Since the iPhone 4s is about 3 years old for the model, you should be out of contract or close to being out of contract, so why not look into getting yourself a new phone? I would have suggested trading in your current phone for a $200 credit with AT&T, but since your phone isn't working right, that might not be an option for you. If you do get a new phone, I would suggest paying the extra $99 for an AppleCare+ warranty extension as well,  That would extend the base warranty to 2 years (the full contract term) as well as including 2 incidents of "non-warranty damage" repair or replacement for $79 each (and you only have to pay that fee if you use those incidents).  AppleCare+ is one of the best investments you cn make for an iPhone because it will cost you a one time $99 fee to cover your phone for 2 full years, and twice in that time you can take an accidental damaged/not working phone in and get it replaced for $79.  The only thing it won't cover is theft/loss or damage by an unauthorized repair service.

If you have the insurance on your phone, you can check to see if they will cover the issue as well.  You would have to pay your insurance deductible, but that would probably be less than the out of warranty repair cost for your current iPhone.

If the second phone still turns on, trade it in at an AT&T store and get a 16GB iPhone 6 for almost free with a new two-year contract.  If it doesn't turn on, buying a new phone for $199 is a much better deal than paying to repair a three-year-old device.
