iPhone 6 Space Grey Front Camera Crescent Issue...?

I have an iPhone 6 64GB in Grey that has had an issue that keeps happening even after Apple repairs it...My front camera begins to have a crescent appear...I will link a picture as it seems to be a fairly common issue with the 6 model and seems pretty specific to the Space Grey color weirdly enough. I have had the screen replaced 4 times (a couple times for a loose crunchy home button) and the entire phone replaced once. I think Apple knows it is an issue because when they go through the warranty process one of the options they can choose when they tell their software that tracks the issue that it is a camera issue is "misaligned front camera".

Has anyone had this issue? I am wondering if it is worth my time to request a replacement refurb phone in a different color than the Space Grey? I am tired of driving over and hour both ways to get a screen replaced only to have this happen again in a few weeks.

Also, being on NEXT, if by chance Apple does say they will replace it with a different color, how does this affect my ability to trade in and upgrade when the time comes? I know the IMEI is what they go off of to see, but will the color change affect eligibility?

I have a space grey 6+, 128 gb version.  I don't have a crescent, but maybe my model isn't effected.

Changing to a different color won't effect your trade in as long as it is an authorized replacement.

You have 2 options:

1.  Keep pestering Apple until you get a fully functioning phone.

2.   Or get a phone that is fully working, and trade it in by paying up your next agreement to the trade in point.

Thanks Liz. I have read it seems to be specific to the regular 6 model, not the plus. It also seems to be much more common to the Space Grey models. I doubt they would consider a color change as they would rather just keep swapping displays instead...which is getting old.

I will consider a different phone when the time comes to upgrade even though I have been mostly loyal to Apple thus far. I find it strange that AT&T is the only carrier who can't handle iPhone warranties, which would make this much less of a hassle to deal with!

Here's to seeing what Samsung, HTC, LG, and Motorola do in the coming months.

Apple doesnt really want anyone touching their phones.  And I would rather deal with Apple than any carrier anyway.

I hope you work it out.

Both my wife & I have iPhone 6 smartphones we got at AT&T stores on launch day, about 15-15.5 months go.  I got a Space Grey and she got a Silver, and neither one of us have issues with our front cameras like you show in your image.  When this first happened, had your phone been repaired or replaced before then, or did this only happen after it had been repaired?  It almost sounds as it something got moved/bent when the screen was being replaced, or like there were a bach of screens that were slightly off on the alignment for the camers in the screen "bezzel".  The fact that our phones have never been repaired and don't have this issue seem to support those theories.

Most states have "lemon laws" which indicate that if the problem can't be repaired or resolved after 3 attempts, that the manufacturer needs to replace the unit.  I would suggest that you might want to check into that in your situation if it is happening as frequently as you say.

I want to be as factual as possible, so here is the replacement history of my phone (some of which has been issues with my home button becoming loose and not working properly)

08/15/15

Display replaced due to misaligned front facing camera

10/13/15

Entire unit replaced due to screen on one corner popping up and a loose abnormal feeling home button. Technician thinks that previous screen replacement caused something to be bent inside of the phone itself.

11/11/15

Display replaced due to misaligned front facing camera

12/16/15

Display replaced due to loose abnormal feeling home button

So 4 times total with either a repair or replacement and half of those repairs was due to a misaligned camera issue. So I may have initially exaggerated it a bit, but I think 4 times in 4 months is pretty excessive to have to have anything repaired or replaced, right? I couldn't find anything about lemon law other than relating to cars in Pennsylvania. I am totally OK going to another phone color if it is less likely to have more issues even though I prefer the Space Grey color I initially purchased at AT&T, but I doubt Apple will do anything more than offer a display replacement since the phone other than the front facing camera misalignment issue is all great.
