NEW IPHONE X MAX

SO, I was wondering if I get an upgrade from at&t for the new iphone x max which is a dual sim. Im a at&t consumer btw, Im gonna be traveling to philippines next year, can I just insert a local sim over there without any problem? Or do I have to wait till my phone contract to be fully paid? What are my options? Thanks

The eSIM won’t come activated on the new phones out of the box, so until Apple releases the software update that enables it, you are limited to the physical SIM card.  AT&T hasn’t announced how they are going to handle the eSIM when it eventually does get activated, but given the past history, it would be surprising if they allowed the eSIM to be unlocked before the phone was paid off.

If you buy from ATT, the phone will be locked to ATT. ATT will not unlock until it is paid for. If you need an unlocked phone, buy the unlocked version from Apple (if they even have an unlocked version) or the Verizon version.

@sandblaster Apple has sim free or unlocked Xs Max to preorder.
