Problem calling one specific number- "call can not be completed as dialed"

Sounds completely ridiculous… I know. I DID "check the number and dial again." I've called the number by manually typing it in, using the saved contact, and even the call back option in the voice messaging.   I have tried deleting the contact information, and re-adding it. I have gone through all of the troubleshooting on the website including having my connection reset and also restarting my phone. I have also tried calling from another number in the same area and the call went through just fine.  The person I'm trying to call is my mom, on a landline, who lives over 1000 miles away. We talk every day and have talked every day for the past few years.  Suddenly, after completing the most recent update, I get the "call cannot be completed as dialed. Please check the number and dial again."  She is able to call me. I am able to call her from other devices.   I'm able to call other people,  but for some reason, suddenly, my "call cannot be completed as dialed." What's going on?

I also wanted to add that my phone updates are current.  I have the iPhone 5s. I am calling central WV from the Tampa Bay Area.

UPDATE!!  For anyone else having this issue, I spoke with my mom today (who has  A Suddenlink landline ), and she had HER phone checked as well.  Her Suddenlink guy told her there is some kind of "block" between Suddenlink, ATT, and Frontier customers and that they (her guys) are working to get it removed.  I haven't called AT&T yet, but I'm waiting to get more details from her and will post results as soon as I hear something…

If you are an AT&T employee and know anything about this, PLEASE respond.

I have the same problem since switching to AT&T. Customer service did not offer any assistance. Wondering if you have solved the problem yet?

I am having a problem connecting to my sister's landline phone from my cell phone. The phone drops the call after one ring that I hear. She has Spectrum. She can call me back on the same landline though.

I just realized this is a very old post, but I have the same problem trying to call my son. He’s on Mint Mobile. I have tried to post about this three times since yesterday.  It says I’ve posted but I don’t see it anywhere!

We'll be happy to assist you with calling your sister @asakay02.

Are you having issues with calls in general or simply with this one number?

If you are unable to connect in general, we'd suggest trying basic troubleshooting measures, such as toggling Airplane Mode on/off and resetting your network settings. To do the latter:

  • On Android, go to: Settings > System > Advanced > Reset options > Reset network settings.
  • On iOS 15 or later, go to: Settings > General > Transfer or Reset [Device] > Reset > Reset Network Settings.
  • On iOS 14 or earlier, go to: Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings.

If it persists, we'll need more details, including your device (so that we can provide more specific troubleshooting guidance) and the ZIP code you're located in (so that we can check the towers in your area) in order to proceed.

However, if this is happening solely with your sister's landline, she will need to reach out to Spectrum, as this is likely an issue on their end.

We look forward to your response!

Hi @Kaysei, let's get you pointed in the right direction.

Just for confirmation do you have service with us? If not you would need to reach out to your current provider.

If you have serivice with us is this the only number you know of that you can't call? Have you informed the person who has this phone, so they can make sure you haven't been blocked? If you haven't been, they would need to check with their carrier on this.

Thank you for reaching out to AT&T Community Forums we hope this helps.

Yes, I am with AT&T.  He has not blocked me.  He has already called his carrier too, and they cannot help either.

We want to share some tips to help you get through @Kaysei

We'd suggest trying basic troubleshooting measures, such as toggling Airplane Mode on/off and resetting your network settings.

We also recommend troubleshooting your device, and making sure you dont have any 3rd party apps blocking the number.

You can also check call forwarding, do not disturb,  and airplane mode settings for both devices.

Let us know if this helps.
