Upgraded my husband to iPhone 15 pro max but he doesn’t want it however I need a new phone

My husband has the iPhone 13 and I have the 13 pro max, I upgraded him to the 15 pro max online however he said he doesn’t care for a new phone just wants a bigger screen like mine. Whereas I would love the 15 pro max so we decided when it arrives today that he will use mine and I’ll use his upgrade. My question is when it arrives, how do i activate it to be on my line? Do I need to activate it for him under his number first then just swap SIM cards and then do an iCloud backup to restore our info.

You should activate the new phone on the phone line that you upgraded, which would be your husband's line.

Make sure both phones have been backed up prior to swapping esim.

If you are using the physical SIM card in your phone, you will be swapping the physical sim to the ESIM on the new phone.

Transfer your phone number and all of your data to the new iPhone 15.

Apple allows you to do a full iCloud backup when switching phones.

The iPhone 15 will now have your data and both eSims with both your phone number and your husband's phone number.

You can then factory reset the 13 max.

Restore all your husband's data from the temp iCloud backup.

Then move his esim to the 13 max

You need to active the SIM on the line that was upgraded.  AFTER the SIM is activated, then you can swap SIM between the phones.

Hi there! Let's get the help you need!

Thank you for the relevant information @ace.

To activate your new iPhone 15 Pro Max on your line, you can follow these steps:

Back up your current iPhone: Before you start, make sure to back up your current iPhone to iCloud or your computer. This will ensure that all your data is saved and can be transferred to your new device.

Insert the SIM card: Once your new iPhone arrives, insert your current SIM card into the new device. Make sure SIM card is compatible with the new iPhone.

Turn on your new iPhone: Press and hold the power button on your new iPhone until the Apple logo appears. Follow the on-screen instructions to set up your new device.

Activate your new iPhone: If your new iPhone is not already activated, you can activate it by following the instructions provided. You may need to provide your phone number, account information, and other details to complete the activation process.

Restore your data: Once your new iPhone is activated, you can restore your data from your iCloud or computer backup. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the restore process.

We hope this helps! Let me know if you have any other questions.
