Google Pixel MicroCell Support

For those of you wandering, the Google Pixel works seamlessly with the 3G MicroCell. In the other hand, WiFi Calling on the Pixel is not currently available.

I'm sure I wasn't the only one wandering about this and hope it answers some questions.

That's good to hear for a new phone. Any AT&T 3G/4G/LTE handset will work with the MicroCell. Some phones just work better than others when it comes to handing-off, SMS/MMS, etc. Just leave WiFi enabled to handle any data.

I can't get my Pixel XL to connect to the Microcell.  Are there special APN settings to use?  Google support was no help.

  The microcell can only be used by ATT branded phones and iPhones.

How is it you got a non ATT phone working?

I've been using a Oneplus One on my Microcell for 2 years.  I can't get the Pixel to connect.

I updated the MicroCell with the latest software update and made sure AT&T had my IMEI correct in their system. I'm not 100% sure of the technicalities, but it has been working flawlessly for me. I'll attach a screenshot for you.

This is a bit confusing. There is no software to update on the MicroCell. If there is a firmware push available for the MicroCell, ATT will push it. Only phones that have an ATT cellular account number can use the MicroCell. Only post paid accounts can register/activate the MicroCell but pre-paid/post-paid phones can be added to the Approved Users List. The MicroCell also requires IMEI and IMSI numbers that are approved for use on the ATT Network. That's the problem with mod'd phones or phones not made for the domestic market. Maybe I'm missing something here 😞

@OttoPylot

I have never had a phone not work with a microcell.  And I go thru the gambet of phones in a year.

The firmware update does come through automatically or during activation, I just installed my MicroCell at my new house last week after I got my Pixel. It has worked well with my parents MicroCell when I visited them and their MicroCell has been installed for over a year. I would try unregistering your MicroCell and try going through the activation process again. I've had the Nexus 6P, OnePlus 2, and Nexus 5, all of which have worked with the MicroCell when visiting my parents.

@GLIMMERMAN76 - Unless ATT has changed something the MicroCell can only be registered/activated and used by a phone that has ATT approved IMSI/IMEI numbers. The phone doesn't have to be purchased from ATT but the model/build has to have the ATT registration code in the database as well the firmware code. Some phones that are jailbroke or intended for a foreign market don't have the recognized codes and thus are not recognized by the MicroCell even tho they may work on the "regular" ATT cellular network.
