Internet air question

I still Have AT&T DSL 12mb/1mb and have received many offers for switching to Internet air. MY hesitation is because I only receive about 1–2 bars of cell signal at my home and rely on Wi-Fi calling to have any sort of reliability for making phone calls. If I were to switch, would the receiving capability of the internet air hub be any better than a cell phone? Nobody I have talked to can answer this, and if I switch, I can't go back. Fiber is not available, nor is any 5G OTA internet from AT&T competitors. I would like to improve my speeds, but not at the risk of losing all reliability. Can somebody who knows advise me on this please? Thanks.

It would 100% be faster than your phone because a home internet device will utilize a stronger antenna than a small handheld device will, now it may not be as fast to run 4 tvs, and a gaming computer but it would probably be fine for 1-2 tvs a computer and a couple phones.

It will matter where you locate the All-Fi Hub in your home with respect to the Cell Tower it communicates with.  You may wish to place it near a window on the side closest to the tower for best reception (vs in the middle of the home where it would provide the best Wi-Fi coverage).

That sounds good. I'm the only one here so only 1–2 devices at a time would really be used.

Unless things have changed, I thought ATT AIR offered a 7 day trial period then you have to cancel one or the other.

Is AIR as reliable as hardwired, no…. Subject to more potential issues including bad weather interfering with cell signal.

Is AIR more economical, yes… lower monthly payment ($55 compared to $70) with unlimited data while ATT (Uverse platform) internet has 1.5T data cap and overage of $10/50G up to $100 extra per month.

The question is convenient (AIR) versus reliability (hardwired).

For the majority the easy of setup, no tech needed for installation or repair(s) and low cost makes 5G home internet from various ISPs the winner with about 90% of  all new internet connections in 2022 being cellular FWA.

Is there a website, app or other means of determining where cell towers are near my location?

@my thoughts Thanks for the links. From reading the first one looks like AT&T is playing catch up again. T-Mobile has been running ads for some time on fixed wireless internet. I haven't seen any Verizon or AT&T ads, at least not on TV like T-Mobile's been running. Good articles.

Isn't Internet Air only available where there is no fiber? I think competitor wireless internet is available anywhere signal allows. Believe me, if I could get fiber, I'd take that over a wireless source.

ATT AIR for within the 21 state footprint (60+ million addresses) is expected to be available for 25% (15 million) of footprint, but the service is also billing offered outside traditional hardwired footprint where ATT has the extra

capability. Including areas of New York, Pennsylvania, Colorado, Oregon, Washington State, etc that are outside of footprint. In essence if ATT wireless phone can be offered ATT AIR can be offered as using same 5G cell towers where mid span capacity is offered.

Similar to T-Mobile that has no hardwired footprint and Verizon that has a hardwired footprint, FWA is being offered in all areas where capacity exists. In my part of Wisconsin all 3 FWA products are offered plus a 4th from phone company US Cellular which is owned by TDS that has some hardwired footprint in Wisconsin and other states.
