ATT Technician Phone Line Internet Wiring

What would you do as a woman Homeowner when two AT&T technicians come to your home and intimidate you so that you don’t follow through with having your wiring fixed? The first technician yelled at me, apologized and then left with the ATT job still open. When the second technician came to my home, he told me that he would not enter my home to update my internet, towered over me and slammed his hand on my unit number and said that my unit’s wiring needs to be fixed on the outside of my home but ATT was not going to fix it. I have called and asked ATT what needs to be fixed and I was not given an answer.

Call again…

The first tech returned the job to some code, likely for outside line issue but could have been for other reason(s).

The second tech I suspect was the outside tech that works up to the NID. As mention unit number this is likely either apartment or condo building where the building owner would be responsible for all building related wiring, example if mice chewed on wiring from the NID to the unit, recommend calling a company specializing in low voltage wiring who generally charge by the hour.

Note that ATT techs dispatched for customer issue not related to their job function can charge $99 to tell you not their  responsibility and not resolve your issue. This is most often associated with customer equipment such as tvs, pcs, any 3rd party devices but can include customers inside wiring or building wiring if a multi unit building. An example would be the building wiring is damaged in attic, basement, walls, etc from say an animal chewed on wiring or someone cut the wiring… can you imagine needing access to three other units the wiring runs through to get to your unit. Those individuals in the other units have to be home and allow a tech to enter and work in their home due to how the building was initially constructed and wired.

All you can get here is advice.  If you think a formal complaint to BBB will help, pursue it.  The problem won’t get fixed on its own and ultimately an Att technician will need to perform a repair (according to what you’ve said).

Thanks for the feedback. I believe that the wiring is underground and not going through multiple units. The phone lines come in from the ATT box and then split off into each unit and then to the ATT closet.  ATT has refused to even repair at a cost. These two visits did not cost me anything. BBB cannot force a business to do something. ATT’s only suggestion is to have the HOA fix it and the HOA says it’s between the owner and ATT. So, now what?

Get a lawyer?

An additional point.  In the long run, copper wires will be another forgotten and abandoned technology by Att.  So they themselves are losing interest in repairing a deprecated network.  If you have other options for an ISP, I’d consider that.

The phone phones come into ATT box, this would be a serving terminal, possible side of building, in basement, etc… that would be the end of ATT responsibility, if have good service connection at that box but issue is with individual wiring from ATT terminal to your unit that is building wiring, the property owner responsibility.

In an apartment complex, this is easy the owner of the complex would need to hire low voltage electrician if their own maintenance crew cannot install new wiring. In your condo situation the question is who pays for improvements to the building? The HOA or you, if you then you need to hire someone to resolve building wiring issues.

Now if the issue is before the box to the building, then ATT problem but if the techs with their meters are receiving a good signal to your assigned posts in the serving terminal for your building, then their work has been completed.

Thank you for the feedback. I had electricians come to my home and they called ATT and the manager of the technicians and shamed them for not doing right by me by offering to fix the wiring for payment with properly trained technicians.
An HOA is not responsible for fixing wiring and electricians are not able to fix ATT phone line wiring especially when they refuse to even tell electricians what needs to be fixed.

Where I live there is NO other option and ATT is asking for a waiver however the state of CA does recognize that rural parts do not have access to fiber or cable, so hopefully the waiver will be denied.
