Before I put the new router (gateway) in I want to know how much trouble I will have with my internet. Can I just change the router id and pw to my current settings be done with it
Normally, yes, just copy your SSID and passphrase over to the new gateway and you should be set. In fact, the provisioning system may try to do that for you when you install the new gateway.
If you've done any "special" configurations like port forwarding or IP Passthrough/DMZplus, expect to have to set them back up.
Also, if you are using a coax connector on the back of your current gateway, the new one (if a different model) may not have it and that could be trouble. If you're not using coax, then no worries.
