Vista laptop connets to new 5268ac

I have a Vita lap top, I know its old, my last router, that connected fine, had issues and at&t replaced it. Now the new 5268ac router will not connect to the internet over wifi.

Got a few frustrating days into this and it will not connect. It shows the wifi signal as hot. (Wired connection between router and lap top works fine).

I have tried every thing I can think of, changing encryption types, (Little different is vista then today) Best chooses were found trying to add a new connection manually but nothing. Tried multiple reboots. I have two phones and a tablet that work fine.

The most seen error messages are about the wrong encryption type but have tried all configurations with no meaningful results. Had the detail page for the router open on my desk top and did my best to match but something is still a miss.

A manual would be nice but they do not appear to exist.

In the wifi setup, there is a place to Enter a wps pin, (Vista does not have the ability to use the WPS button as far as I know). I found one web site that kind of make it look like I pick a random number which I did not try. There is no mention of a PIN on the router. Could that be it?

I have a Vita lap top, I know its old,...

Is it old enough that it doesn't support 5GHz wifi?  If so possibly the 5268's wifi band steering (where it optimizes the use of 2.4 and 5 GHz bands) is causing problems for the laptop.  If so assign different ssid (network name)/passwords for each band to disable the band steering and then access the 2.4 band by the ssid you gave it.

Change your Wi-Fi network information should help you on how to change ssid/password.
