Another price increase

ATT increased price of internet service by $5 effective Feb 26, 2023.  Have announced another $5 price increase effective July 16, 2023.  For my internet package that is a 25% increase in less than six months.  I am signed up for every discount I can get; including earlier this year a $5 discount for going to auto pay, which saves ATT money.  I truly doubt ATT costs to provide internet service have increased, or are increasing by that amount.  This is very disappointing as it appears ATT is taking advantage of long term customers who have limited or no options.  Retired on fixed income.  Are there other options available that can reduce my cost.

Was trying to follow question because I'm in the same situation. Where does it end? I don't know of any other options short of cancelling ATT service  and trying another provider to get discount for new customers..

These price increases are reserved for long time customers, for whom AT&T has no loyalty nor respect.   When I signed

up for the service in December 2022, I was told that since I was a loyal long term customer I would get a $20

discount off the regular internet price in perpetuity.   Then, 3 months later the price for the internet went up by

$5.   I asked where I could see that the regular list price for internet was now $65, since the AT&T web site and the

newspaper inserts said the price was $60.  I was told that I could only see the new price on my bill.   Now, the July

internet price has gone up another $5.   Again, I asked where do I see the $70 regular list price, since the AT&T

web site and the newspaper inserts still say it is $60.   Again, I was told that that price is only on my bill.   So,

the reality is there is no long term upgrade price discount for loyal customers.   The discount applies to a made up

price that only loyal customers with a discount are charged.   I expect that by the end of the year there will be two

more $5 increases, so that the net effect will be that the $20 discount will no longer exist.   Thus, something that

could have generated good will for AT&T with its long term customers has in short order been turned into something

that causes extreme resentment.   It would have been better to only offer the standard $60 price from the beginning.

I've had my internet with them for years.  Started off with discount, the, they promised that because I was a "loyal customer," I would continue to receive the discounted price.  Then they changed, or I needed, a new receiver box.  Price when up.  Since then, there have been several price increases.  If I switch providers, I'd have to change my email address in a ton of places.  Seems to me with all the technology available, they could actually decrease their fees, especially us Loyal Customers.

@kwilder  If you change providers you should be able to keep your primary email address and just possibly pay AT&T a minimal fee to do that. When we moved to another state I kept my primary email address because our previous provider has one of the best email services around (very aggressive and reliable spam protection) so I just pay $6 per month to maintain that email address and don't even bother with my new provider's included email address. For about $70 per year it's worth it to me to not have to change our accounts and important emails and have a rock solid primary email service as well.

We've had two price increases in 3 months. In April was $66/month. May and June $71 per month. And now July $76 per month which adds another $120  per year.  If we keep this plan with AT&T it will go from $792 per year to $912 per year.  I think that is ridiculous.  Is AT&T giving us any better service?

What plans do you guys have? I have internet basic 6 that says $57 now its $66 with the increase. @msbrosch , @Herminius_Titian , @diva12 , @kwilder , @OttoPylot , @watercake . At this rate it looks like they will just increase the price to match that fiber internet plan and make us switch for all us long term loyal customers.

We have Fiber Internet 300, was $46.04 at the beginning of the year, with whatever discounts we had, and now it's $61.04. I think they get everyone on autopay and then trust that most people won't notice as they creep the price up over and over again. Unfortunately, we have no choice but to keep them since they are the "exclusive provider" for my complex. I wonder how much it will be by the end of the year.

It’s difficult and frustrating to compare pricing as it differs greatly by area usually based on available technology and competition.  You can pay as much if not more for legacy technology than someone who has a gigabit fiber connection.  The companies know these facts and set pricing accordingly.
