How to request faster internet in my area

How can I request faster internet in my area? I currently have 50mbps and am paying $68/month. I see there are much faster speeds available and even cheaper. How can I get the ball rolling to get faster internet in my area? It's been the same speed for about 7 or 8 years. Very Frustrating.

If you are currently on an AT&T plan that offers a higher tier, then change your plan to that tier. If you're asking AT&T to offer higher speeds than they currently offer in your area, then look for another provider who offers the speed you want for your area.

Same speeds for 7 to 8 years… yes, FTTN or Fiber To The Node, last distance copper deployments were completed in December 2015, thus only increases would be moving from single to bonded pair in which speed tiers are determined by copper loop length. Internet 100/20 is (2) 50/10 bonded requiring a distance from VRAD under 1000 feet or about 1.5 city blocks, while internet 75/20 extends that bonded pair distance to around 1800 feet and internet 50/10 as bonded pair is (2) 25/5 from distance of 1800 to 2800 feet.

Since 2016 ATT has been upgrading 5% of addresses (3 million out of 60+ million total) each year to FTTP or direct fiber, the current 10 year fiber buildout is scheduled to end December 2025, with over 27 million addresses currently completed and another 3+ million to go, I expect most all future fiber addresses have already been started in the construction phase. Do you see any activity?

How about fiber to the cell tower, this is ATT AIR in which estimate is 25% of footprint or 15 million addresses will have this fiber option, does your address show as ATT AIR available?

There is another 15 million addresses that will not have either option by start of 2026, ATT has hinted they may add a 3rd fiber buildout phase for 10 million to 15 million addresses which would cover the time span of 2026-2030.

If speed and convenience is your primary concern the FWA (fixed wireless access) from ATT, T-Mobile, US Cellular, or Verizon should be considered. Otherwise faster speeds than 50/10 should be available from your local cable company or satellite providers such as StarLink.
