What about AT&T's existing customers?

It's come to the attention of most of us that AT&T is actively looking to purchase Time Warner for the small cost of $85.4 BILLION, but I fail to see how this acquisition is going to improve my, as well as anyone else in the same boat, already near dial up service. As a cellular customer of AT&T for nearly 12 years, and a home internet customer for almost 8, I'm always shocked to see these types of acquisitions come to fruition when a portion of the current customer base still receives "Fast Access DSL" of 1.5Mbps.... This, to me, is unacceptable, and shows where AT&T, as a company, places its priorities. I've beg and pleaded with the folks at their customer service line to provide any means of information I could use to voice my opinions on the near 1990's bandwidth rates, but have been unable to make any ground. Instead, I'm told I'm free to cancel my service and choose another provider. The problem with that, however, is that there are no other providers in our current monopolistic area. While I'm not fond of a single provider option, I'd be willing to accept it if the provider cared enough to provide decent service. Instead of spending $85.4 billion on Time Warner, how about spending a few hundred thousand, or even a few million, upgrading existing infrastructure to those areas that really need it. I'm not asking for 1Gbps fiber, but It would be nice to have something like 3Mbps...or, now call me crazy, 10Mbps! 

AT&T, you've gone from a company I respected to a company of the likes of Comcast, and the entire world knows how crappy Comcast is.
