When will AT&T Provide Some Better Internet Speeds.

Hello Everyone,

I jumped to Spectrum about a year ago. Because an Internet Speed of 18Mbps these days is just pointless. Not to mention a ridiculous $268 or $286 bill per month. Just didn't make sense. I was thinking of coming back, but with 18Mbps speeds still, just staying away. So my question is when will ATT start providing  speeds that are up to modern standards?

I wouldn't hold my breath for that to happen that soon anywhere except maybe in and around the big cities. AT&T has been abandoning their DSL system for the past several years. Switching to U-verse only makes matters worse with service that fluctuates wildly. For us, it goes anywhere from near 0 mbps to 13-14 mbps. When it goes to near 0, it stays there. Tech after tech has come out, "fixed" the problem only for it to reoccur within a few weeks to a few months at the most. The max speed you can have still depends on how far you are away from a pedestal just like it did 20 years ago. After the tech comes tomorrow to "fix" the problem again, I'll never do it again when, not if, but when the service crashes again.

I'm about 55 miles north of Atlanta in a county with a population of approximately 130,000, so I doubt we'll ever see fiber optic here. I'm not willing to wait and see. I'm just glad I'm not trying to operate a business from home that depends on an internet connection. If I were, I would have been out of business by now.

Your experience with non-legacy-DSL Internet provided by AT&T will depend largely on where you are in relationship to AT&T's electronics and how long ago the circuits were pulled for your home/neighborhood.  I'm fairly close to my neighorhood VRAD, have VDSL2 service, our copper is only about 30 years old (with a newer drop across the back yard), and I get excellent stability (save when Charter cuts my drop...).

If you are a mile or more away from the CO and get ADSL2 service, your experience will likely be much worse than mine.

I pay for 18mbps and they only deliver 8-10mbps!!! Doubtful AT&T will ever improve if they can’t get their current service right!!!
