I think my electronics or IP addy has been flagged

I purchased a new computer & printer at the end of November.  I went to the HP support website to finish installing my printer.  While on the website a chat box pops open the technician & chat box all identify their selves as being from HP.  Tech asks my name a return number in case we lose connection all normal so I thought. This was Jan 3. Of course, for a one time fee of 29.99 it will extend my warranty 6 months and unlimited help. I thought this weird because I was still in my 90 days and it’s suppose to be free support but this was for my warranty. Oh yeah and my virus protection which came with the computer was “ not good” so for 49.99 they installed Norton yes this required me to allow them access to remote in my computer   But the remote access app was logmein which is what HP & Geek squad use. Oh did I mention I paid with my credit card? These people have called identifying their selves as HP support. I dont answer but they do leave a vm. Matter of fact every time I go to HPs support or google a support issue they call me. I have never answered their calls   I don’t even know if I’m really posting in the ATT forum right now.  Yesterday my computer spent over 6 hours installing a new update.  Flag somethings wrong get ahold of HP. So I go to the HP support forum like this forum and while I’m in the process of typing my issue they call, I don’t answer. I post my issue and lo & behold I get an email from the fake HP telling me to call this # for Us& Canada another one for international. Email was from “HP”.  So I call and yes for a one time fee I say “Are you with HP” yes and for a 1 time Geri say again “ARE YOU HEWLETT-PACKARD” I get a no right then I tell them they are hackers I have all their info I hang up. Holy cow I’ve been hijacked. Like a crazy person I go to every electronic device and shut down my WiFi. I unplug the router.  Finally thru a HP FB message someone helps reset my laptop to factory but I’m not going to put it on my network till I’m sure it’s safe. I have an appt to have my computer looked at by the Geek Squad.

So here’s my question -

what is my next step? Do I purchase a new modem, have my IP address changed?  I’m only using my cell service to access the internet now. Like I said earlier I don’t even know if I’m really on the att forum. I went to the forum thru My ATT but I also went to HP at the address provided with the computer

Greetings @Judieo13,

Thank you for reaching out to us and bringing this to our attention.  I completely understand where you’re coming from. One thing I would recommend is resetting your modem/router by unplugging from the wall for 15-20 seconds and then changing your password to access your Wi-Fi.

If you want a more of a peace of mind you can get a new modem but it is not fully necessary to get one. However I would like to further investigate this issue. If you can please send us a private message to @ATTCares. If you can provide your account information it would be greatly appreciated.
