Move email folders from yahoo.com account to pacbell.net

Has anyone figured out the problem of folders and emails that were for some reason left on a yahoo.com account when they "unmerged" yahoo and pacbell(sbcglobal.net)???  I never actually used that stupid yahoo email address so everything in my folders should have been associated with my pacbell email address when they did the split.  I want everything to be back like it was with all of my folders associated with the pacbell email address.  Help???

Hi @ravanza,

I am sorry you are having trouble logging into your email. I am more than happy to assist with this!

I completely understand how important it is to have this resolved. I am going to suggest loging into start.att.net and checking your mail there to see if there is any difference. Please open the link and select mail, on the left, then sign in.

Have a great rest of your day!

There are three problems with ATTcares post above.

  1. Why show an shortened link which expands to a long url where just start.att.net would do?
  2. The mail icon is on the right, not the left on that page.
  3. It doesn't answer the OP's problem!  The OP already said there's folders missing in the att mail side.

When att and yahoo did the unmerge they botched the job (IMO).  Based on the many posts in these forums they screwed up logins and left it to the users to figure out how to get everything straightened out.  They also left user's mailboxes on the yahoo side again leaving the users to figure out how to move the stuff.  If att wanted these users how had att legacy accounts merged with yahoo split off then why didn't they move their entire accounts to the att side in the first place?

So OP, it's your problem.  While you can export/import contacts lists across (if they ever fix contacts too now) there is no webmail interface to allow you to move your mailboxes (and apparently att isn't going to do it for you).  The only scheme I can suggest for doing that is to set up an email client app (Thunderbird, Outlook, etc.) with accounts set up as IMAP for both the att and yahoo and then move the mailboxes within the app to effect the transfer.   But if you go that far why use the webmail at all and  just uses the email client app instead.

Thank you so much for your clear statement of the problem.  I have been so frustrated with this and can't even find a client app that meets my ;needs.  What is so hard for AT&T to understand???  Anybody wants all of their stuff for one account to be together.

Any ideas about a client app that will allow me to import all of my folders.

Also, the "transfer" of contacts is crappy because it does not transfer any of your group lists.  I have been building those for years and hate the idea of starting over with them.

I did mention client apps as examples: Thunderbird, Outlook.  I use Thunderbird.  As I mentioned elsewhere, based on various threads on problems of one kind or another I feel Outlook is relatively fragile.  I sampled Outlook when I was searching for a new client some time ago but I just didn't like the way it organized the display.  There are many others for each platform.  Just google for for "YOUR-PLATFORM email client apps", for example, "windows email client apps" or "mac email client apps" and you will find many (not all free).  No matter what I suggest is "good" it would just incite a "religious war" of "why I like my email app better than yours".

As for contacts.  I have no suggestions there.  Most (including yahoo's) webmails have export/import of contacts lists but I never really investigated it.  I am not sure they preserve group lists.  Probably not since the exported lists are basically just .csv text files laid out in one order for another depending on the intended target email client and the info I don't think includes grouping info.
