Outlook won't receive bellsouth.net email

When trying to replicate using Outlook 2010, Bellsouth.net email will not come in.  It will sit in "send/receive" for hours but nothing replicates.  This has been going on for a week now (since the Bellsouth server was down last week).  I've tried pop3 and I've tried IMAP.  Nothing replicates in receiving.  Yahoo mail replicates perfectly.  It's just Bellsouth.net email that won't receive.  HELP please!

Replace you password in your outlook with a secure mail key. Read this (which includes a link to how to create a secure mail key).

I created a secure key and changed the password in outlook.  It still will not replicate receiving...just sits there. Any other ideas?  Do I need to remove the outlook account and create a new one?

Shouldn't have to.  Can you log into the webmail?  If you can't I would suggest changing your account password too (Forgot ID/Password).  That in combination with the secure mail key for email clients works in many cases for users with legacy accounts.  If it still doesn't work then call the Digital Assistance Center (877-273-2728).

I can get into webmail and am receiving messages.  I see my test messages in webmail as well.  Just can't seem to get outlook to replicate the receiving.

It has to be something in the settings that I'm using in Outlook.  I can get test messages completed but no mail is coming in.

Verify your settings with the appropriate outlook version settings described here.

All of my settings are correct.  My Outlook finally replicated for Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday.  But it took all day in "send/receive" mode for this to happen.  Thursday has not replicated yet.  I'm frustrated as I can't figure out what is going on.  I've deleted the outlook account, re-added it...several times.  I've tried IMAP and POP settings.  Everything worked just fine until the server went down at Thanksgiving weekend.  Now I'm faced with this.  My server email comes in just fine - just not outlook.  Next step is to forward all server mail to a gmail account and see if that works better in the future.  I can't rely on Bellsouth.net.  Thank you for all of your help.

It might be a "bad" email message in the server inbox (and hence in the webmail inbox - webmail mirrors the server).   As an experiment you might try logging into the webmail, create a new (temporary) mailbox folder, move all the email in the webmail inbox to that new folder.  Hopefully now your webmail inbox is empty.  Now use the POP setup in your outlook and see if it works as it should - send a test email to yourself.  I recommend POP because now, with the original email moved out of the sever inbox I am not sure how the IMAP setup in outlook will behave when it sees that outlook folder out of sync with the server inbox.  It will probably will want to send all that inbox email in your outlook back up to the server.  That just complicates the experiment and takes time.

If the empty inbox experiment works that confirms there was a "bad" email message in the inbox (that was copied into the temporary folder).  You either have to find it in that temporary folder or hope it never got downloaded to your outlook, in which case, now use an IMAP outlook setup to send all the inbox contents in your outlook back up to the empty inbox on the server.

No bad emails.  I can send test messages and they go through fine...to web mail.  I am now able to receive email from the server to Outlook 2010 but it's slow.  Seems like it only replicates 2 or 3 times a day and not on a scheduled basis.  I am currently using Pop mail because it's at least replicating.  Should I switch over to imap in the future?

Choice of IMAP vs. POP is usually based on what your needs are, not whether one is faster than another.  If both are working correctly it shouldn't matter.

At this point I don't know why you have having the problems you describe.
