Att Hotspot Disconnecting ievice

I have an ATT account for the hotspot in my Ford truck.  Before the IOS 16 update my iDevice would connect and stay connected to the mobile service in my truck.  Since the update I must manually connect to the service.  A minute or two after the device locks the connection is lost and I must again manually connect.  It will stay connected as long as I am using the device.

I called Ford they said the issue was with ATT.  I called ATT and went through the steps they tried which amounted to reauthorizing the hotspot.  They then said advanced support would call me back in one hour.  It has been 72+ hrs and no response and not fix.

Ideas?

I would think this has nothing to do with ATT. ATT only provides internet connectivity for the truck hotspot. Devices connecting to that hotspot would have nothing to do with ATT. That’s totally between the hotspot device and connecting device. A device should be able to connect to the WiFi even if the hotspot is not connected to the cellular network. Have you tried deleting that hotspot from the iDevice and re-adding it?

I must not be wording this correctly.

I can and do connect to the hotspot. It does have a cellular connection to the internet.  When it’s connected to my device everything is great.  It just won’t maintain a connection between the hotspot and the device.  The devices have no issue, no timeouts and automatically reconnect to land devices. Ie wireless routers.  I cannot keep a persistent connection to this cellular hotspot.

You worded it correctly, I am totally understanding. Like I said, the WiFi connection between your iDevice and the truck hotspot has nothing to do with ATT or whether the truck hotspot is connected to the cellular network. So again, have you tried to “forget this network” on your iDevice and re-add it?

Yes I have deleted it and readded it.  I have changed the SSID and password.  I have rebooted all iDevices.  I have changed from 5Ghz to 2.4 GHz.  The behavior does not change.  There are no other settings exposed to me for the hotspot.

I’m thinking there may be a firmware update for the hotspot as the only common denominator is IOS16 update and iDevices.  Before you ask I also contacted Apple with no solution to the issue.

We understand how important it is for you to connect to your truck's hotspot consistently, @FordTruckUser.

Special thanks to our ACE, @sandblaster, for their quick response.

We appreciate you letting us know of all the troubleshooting that you've done so far. Let us try one last step.

We recommend using this resource to troubleshoot your mobile hotspot

Connect to mobile hotspot:
  1. Turn on the mobile hotspot on the device you want to connect to. Not sure how? Check your device manual or att.com/devicesupport for AT&T branded devices.
  2. Write down the hotspot name and password. You'll use them to connect your devices to the hotspot.
  3. Make sure the device Wi-Fi is turned on. Learn how to turn on Wi−Fi
  4. Connect to the mobile hotspot.

Please share the results and we can proceed from there. Thanks for reaching out to AT&T Community Forums!

I tried all of the steps mentioned in the troubleshooting. Going to Att.com/ttr cane back wit a message indicating the connection worked and settings were fine.

Hello @FordTruckUser, we are here to help with your hotspot.

We recommend reviewing our article for more info on how to get In-Car Wi-Fi from AT&T to help stay connected. As @sandblaster mentioned AT&T only provides internet connectivity for the truck hotspot.

Let us know if you have any more questions or concerns!

Yes I am aware that att provides connectivity for the vehicle. It is att service we are talking about.

Are you trying to tell me the problem goes back to Ford as the manufacturer and not Att?  As such I am not tied to Att to provide wireless for my vehicle and am free to use any carrier I would like?

My 2021 Ford Explorer is doing this also. I even renamed the hotspot and changed the password.  It worked for a short time but then it automatically reset the SSID and password again. This is very inconvenient as we have to reconnect my son’s tablet each time we start the vehicle. I am currently in the free trial period but not sure if I will continue it if this problem persists….

Has anyone found a solution for this?
