Is FirstNet actually worth it?

I am a Volunteer firefighter and have been seeing ads and such for FirstNet. I talked to an ATT representative and they tried to sell it to me of course without really being “real” about it. What I mean is that they just cared about commission and not really picking what’s best for me.

Based on some reviews I have seen, it is not the best service but has great stability as a network. I also have not seen much in 5G coverage (based on the reviews), but I have seen that you must activate 5G in your account.

Any info would be greatly appreciated! Thank you.

It's a discounted service which is a good deal if you are a single line and are using an AT&T branded Android phone or an iPhone.

The best way to take advantage of the network is to have a phone that includes band 14 which means it is optimized for First Responders. Since the 3-g shutdown there have been some phones which are kicked off because they are non-branded phones and do not have band 14. (they work on regular At&t)

As always, with any service provider, you need to decide whether the service provider is going to be the best one for your location. Where I live AT&T is very close second to Verizon, way better than T-Mobile. But if you live in an area where AT&T service is not great that it doesn't matter how much you save it's still not the best carrier for you.

If you are not a single line, if you have a spouse, partner, kids, or are sharing services with others - it is always cheaper for a group to be on AT&T regular service rather than split the service by putting one person on firstnet and everyone else on a discounted regular unlimited plan.   As a first responder, you still took can take advantage of a 25% discount on AT&T regular service plans.

The current simple pricing makes it very easy to use the toolbar to select how many lines, and look at the prices for both firstnet and regular plans and decide which pricing and which plan is going to be the best for your wallet and your quality of service.

Re 5G...

I see this is a real concern. More than a few people complain that when their phone connect to 5G, data becomes nearly unusable. I know this is new technology, I truly do not understand why 5G in some places is so slow.    I figured my best option was to avoid a 5G device. You don't have to have a 5G device to be on a service plan that includes 5G service, as long as it is LTE-capable.

@formerlyknownas I'm curious to know if this has improved as of lately. I've been reading that FirstNet was officially upgraded to 5G.

For anyone who is considering First Net DON’T.  We have 2 first responders in our home. We signed up for “deal” with a 3 yr contract. We drop calls all of the time and rarely have access to the internet. Even in the HOSPITAL! Worst of all! They will not let us cancel without huge financial penalties. This is a savage rip off. Minimal phone service and no internet and high prices. I can not tell enough people how difficult it had been trying to work with FirstNet and ATT. They are the absolute worst. This is me on hold just today for over an hour with tech services.

Total joke!!! First net has shut off my wife’s phone 4 times in the last couple of months without any forewarning!!! Now we are on vacation and again her phone has the service shut off. Now I’m spending a hour and a half inside an AT&T store trying to get service switched off Firstnet and over to standard AT&T. Ridiculous service!  No one can switch the account over. Totally uncalled for. I initially came here so I won’t have these problems and yet here we are. Waste of my vacation time with absolutely no help from Firstnet or AT&T. Everyone just wants to keep calling each other with No results!!!  It can’t possibly this difficult. AT&T you have to get your act together.

I strongly advise against considering FirstNet as a service provider. In our household, which includes two first responders, we made the unfortunate decision to sign up for their "deal" with a three-year contract. However, we consistently experience dropped calls and face significant challenges in accessing the internet, even in crucial locations like hospitals. What makes matters worse is that FirstNet and ATT refuse to allow us to cancel the service without imposing substantial financial penalties. This situation is nothing short of a deceptive and unfair scheme, offering minimal phone service, no reliable internet access, and exorbitant prices.

My aim is to warn as many people as possible about the difficulties we've encountered while dealing with FirstNet and ATT. Their customer service has been incredibly frustrating, and I have personally experienced the long wait times, such as the hour I spent on hold with their tech services just today.

Please take this warning seriously and consider alternative service providers who prioritize customer satisfaction and reliable communication services.

I upgraded my phone to the Samsung Galaxy S23. At the same time I switched to first net. I've had nothing but problems. I get shoddy service at work IN A HOSPITAL and have to resort to sending messages via messenger and wifi. I also cannot send or receive messages from iPhones without a huge hastle of having to make sure I'm connected to wifi and occasionally restarting my phone. There have been no outages around my area recently so there's no excuse for this. I would never EVER recommend this service

Garbage. They lie about price with promotions to lower what it seems like it will be a month. The service isn't very good just worse att. 0/10 nothing but problems cancelled it and it messed up all of my prior discounts( work and phone promotions) complete garbage all around. I forget if I mentioned it (Edited per community guidelines) and isn't worth a penny. Don't waste your money.
