Secure Shell on USB Cell Modem

There appears to be a different configuration for the current USB modems than the older versions related to incoming Secure Shell requests.  I have in the past used 20+ Sierra Wireless cell modems for remote instruments but we closed those out and now are using the MC800 modems that do not allow the SSH requests.  Is there a process that we can get the modem firmware updated to allow SSH to function?  Or is the issue a network configuration change for the newer cell modems?  We are on a different APN now.  Thank you for the help.

Good evening @R32899, it's important to us that you have the full functionality of your USB modem and we are here to help!

SSH is not on AT&T's Network management document of ports it blocks, though the router may have IP filtering/firewall blocked by default.

To create an SSH connection it may be helpful to enable AT commands:

  • From the Settings Menu, click Preferences. Check Turn on AT port and click Save Changes.

Was this helpful? Please let us know if we can assist further with your USB modem!

Thank you for the idea but we had tried that configuration as part of our attempts to make the modem pass SSH requests.  We even went the NAT route to see if we could use NAT instead of IPPT but that made no difference either.  I don't think that AT&T is blocking the SSH (or PING) traffic I believe that the firmware on the MC800 (USB800) has some security features that prevent passing SSH or PING requests through to the device.  I have reached out to inseego to see if they have an updated firmware but haven't heard back from them yet.  Also, I don't know if AT&T does their own firmware version since the USB8 is the generic modem and the USB800 is an AT&T specific unit.  We are open to any other suggestions.
