Unwanted ads on lock screen when charging phone

Every time I charge my phone I get a bunch of ads on the lock screen.  They are placed low on the screen so it would be easy to click on one instead of swiping to unlock.  This happened right after I updated.  Is anyone else having this aggravation?  And can I get rid of it without a factory reset?

Thanks!

Greetings @Empiricist,

There can be a few reasons as to why you are receiving this issue upon charging your phone. I would also be concerned as this would interrupt my ability to access the phone. I definitely can assist you further!

Since you updated your device, did you also update your applications? Whenever we perform an update on our phone, it definitely helps to ensure all your applications are updated in the phone. You can learn how to keep up with this with our Device Support Tool. Select your make and model phone, then click on View all Solutions to get started.

Additionally, when you noticed the issue to begin, did you download anything third party? You may want to uninstall and reinstall the latest apps you downloaded unto the phone.

If you are still running into problems, you can opt to perform the Backup & Restore method. This process allows you to backup your phone before restoring. This would mean you don't have to factory reset and lose all data.

I hope you have a great rest of your weekend!

Thanks for responding!  It seems incredible that, due to the number of unhappy folks experiencing this that Google (and AT&T?) haven't found and blocked these ads from unsuspecting customers who did not in any way choose them.

Anyhow, I found a solution right on that obnoxious lock screen.  A tiny menu (dots) at the top right.  I tapped on it and was able to get rid of the ads on the spot.  It gave me some warning about affecting my battery, but nothing is amiss.

Also, an update on these ads from a kind soul:

I do hope others can get rid of this visual blight as easily as I was able to right at the top of the lock screen.  If I run into issues, will report them.

Wishing you a great weekend as well!
