Voicemails changing from contact info to unknown

I just bought the IPhone 15 and noticed some voicemails that I   had been saving are no longer attached to the contacts but state unknown with no number listed. Why would this happen and how do I get them back?  They were on the prior phone.

Hi @Dawn1968, we understand your situation. Let's get the help you need.

Please make sure your call forwarding is also turned off as this may interfere with your incoming calls. We also recommend checking your Call Notifications Settings to make sure it's also turned on, follow prompts on the link provided to enable notifications on your device. Reset all settings by going to Settings app > General > Reset > Reset All Settings to reset any customized settings that may be interfering with incoming calls.

You may have enabled the Silence Unknown Callers feature on your iPhone, which sends unknown and spam callers directly to voicemail. If the contacts that left you the voicemails are not saved in your phone, they might be considered as unknown callers and their numbers might not be displayed in the voicemail list. To check this, go to Settings > Phone and scroll down to Silence Unknown Callers. If this is switched on, you can toggle it off to see if the numbers show up again.

You have restored your iPhone from a backup that might have corrupted some voicemail data. This could cause some voicemails to lose their contact information and appear as unknown. To fix this, you might need to restore your iPhone again from a different backup or set it up as a new device.

Hope this info helps!

Hey @Dawn1968, thank you for writing back to us.

To answer your question, it seems that you have enabled the Silence Unknown Callers feature on your iPhone, which sends out unknown and spam callers directly to voicemail.

Try to reset all network settings, go to the Settings app, General & Reset, and Reset All Settings to reset any customized settings that may be interfering with incoming calls.

Hope the info helps. Feel free to reach out to us for any further questions, we would be happy to help.

These are not unknown people!!!!  Let me clarify. They are known people that are in my contacts. The messages just switched to unknown when transferred to my new phone. Has nothing to do with sending unknowns to voicemail.

Hello @Dawn1968,

I comprehend the issue you are facing, let me help you with the steps and information to resolve this for you.

Make sure you didn't accidentally block him using these steps:

"Phone

Go to Settings > Phone and tap Blocked Contacts to see the list."

If the issue continues, please also check for any pending iOS updates, which can help make sure the software is working as expected. This Apple Support page can help get those updates installed: Update your iPhone.

"Update your iPhone or iPad wirelessly

  1. Back up your device using iCloud or your computer.
  2. Plug your device into power and connect to the internet with Wi-Fi.
  3. Go to Settings > General, then tap Software Update.
  4. If you see more than one software update option available, choose the one that you want to install.
  5. Tap Install Now. If you see Download and Install instead, tap it to download the update, enter your passcode, then tap Install Now.

Hope this helps, feel free to reply if you have any further queries.

My voicemails are also showing as unknown prior to 2019 after 17.1.1 update. None of the above suggestions have helped.

@Malexanian

Sorry but this is a public forum of other customers. The small official help team no longer sends a DM (recent change). They direct you to call customer support as originally intended.

If you truly have the EXACT same issue as the OP, then the following from the first response may apply.

You have restored your iPhone from a backup that might have corrupted some voicemail data. This could cause some voicemails to lose their contact information and appear as unknown. To fix this, you might need to restore your iPhone again from a different backup or set it up as a new device.

If that doesn't work, then fully describe your issue and what phone you have.
