Steam's Remote Play Together

A list of things that I never knew I needed a fix for:

1. Grabbing things from far away without getting up
2. Adding Bluetooth functionality to a car radio
3. Playing local multiplayer games online.

That last one is provided courtesy of Steam's "Remote Play Together" feature, which has technology that allows you to play local multiplayer games (split-screen or shared-screen) over the internet with friends "as though they were in the same room." Valve evidently announced the new functionality to developers through the Steamworks website, and was reported publicly by PC Gamer.

PC Gamer explains that the new feature claims that it work automatically for "all local multiplayer, local co-op and split-screen games," likely meaning there will be little work that needs to be done by the developers themselves to make their games compatible.

Valve's Alden Kroll confirmed the existence of the feature, and then further clarified how the feature was supposed to work. Kroll tweeted:

To clarify: it really is only for shared-screen or split-screen games. The tech is streaming your screen to your friend and capturing their input and sending it back to the game, so you are both playing the same game, looking at the same thing.

The new feature is planned for a beta release in the week of October 21st, 2019.
