AT&T coverage map EXTREMELY inaccurate

We switched from Verizon to AT&T about 3 months ago after having been with Verizon for about 12 years.  The reason we switched is because AT&T offered a lower price than we were paying with Verizon.  Well, we are now very much regretting this switch.  Before we signed up for AT&T, we looked at the coverage map for all of the areas where we would be using our phones the most and, according to the map, AT&T has excellent 4G LTE coverage with HD voice in pretty much our entire area.  This could not be further from our actual experience.  We get either no service or just one lonely bar in and around our home (we had to get a MicroCell device) and my husband literally cannot even use his phone at his work location (which the map showed as having excellent coverage).  I filed a Better Business Bureau complaint and was contacted by someone named John Flynn from the AT&T Office of the President.  He made up all kinds of bogus excuses as to why the map shows what it shows and went on and on with nonsensical drivel.  He then suggested that maybe the reason we are having issues is because our iPhone 7 Plus phones are from Verizon and maybe they are having compatibility issues with the AT&T network (highly doubtful) and he was willing to send us one brand new AT&T iPhone 7 Plus to try to see if that resolved our issues.  Well, we received that phone 2 weeks ago, but this phone had a Verizon Wireless sim card inside of it and it was clearly a used phone that originally came from Verizon.  We even called Verizon and gave them the IMEI off of this phone and they confirmed that, in fact, was a Verizon Wireless iPhone, NOT an AT&T one, so AT&T clearly sent us a used iPhone that another customer had traded in when they switched to AT&T.  My husband did at least try this phone and it is constantly freezing up and the wifi on it does not work, so not only is this is a Verizon phone like we already have, but it is a JUNK phone that does not even work.  I have left John Flynn MULTIPLE voice mails regarding this over the past couple of weeks and he now refuses to return any of my calls.  I called the main number for the AT&T Office of the President 2 days ago and I was promised a call back within 24 hours, but never received one.  We have now officially decided to go back to Verizon.  We never should have even switched.  I am just wondering if anyone else has had issues with that AT&T coverage map being completely inaccurate.

As an over the road driver I can honestly tell you AT&T does in fact make their coverage map look as if you will never lose service. I've driven some of the most desolate areas of the country. AT&T shows coverage on their coverage tool. Its not even close. I understand it's not  perfect. Their coverage tool is the absolute worst of the big 4 carriers. This is a strategic ploy they use to give you the impression that they stand toe to toe with Verizon. Sadly their lowest frequency of 850Mhz LTE cannot touch Verizon 700Mhz LTE signal. The lower the band, the farther the signal can travel/penetrate. All carriers have dead spots. No carrier is perfect. Having a signal booster (WeBoost) will give you a tremendous advantage. That is my suggestion. AT&T has the best coverage in Texas, hands down. I'll give them that. Outside of Texas though, Verizon is king without question. Unfortunately no higher up at AT&T will tell you the truth. I have Verizon again after having the same experience you did. I also carry a prepaid mobile hotspot device from AT&T to cover me while I'm in the areas where AT&T has better coverage in Texas. What better than having one or the other? Having both!!

The maps are pure fiction. I live in upstate NY and can attest to it. Sadly, we will have a disaster and FirstNet Responders will be in the "black" due to the fact there are tons of areas where ATT reports coverage, but has little to none. This is even true outdoors. Inside buildings it is even more of a blatant lie.

No carrier can or would claim to have indoor coverage.

Little coverage, is still coverage.  The quality is the issue.

You can’t sue a wireless carrier.  You have 14 days to leave if you’re not happy with coverage.  If you don’t, that’s on you.

I live in southeast Mississippi and travel everyday to work in south west Alabama and during my 2 hour drive I only have service for about 20 minutes of my 2 hour commute, so to drive for an hour and 40 minutes with no service is ridiculous considering that there's not even a single spot on the coverage map in these areas where there is no coverage. Also that is taking in consideration that the coverage map isn't perfect which they make sure to remind you of on the maps page but it can't be good enough to let you know that you won't have service for an hour and a half of your commute what good is it? It's misleading and they should have to compensate all of their customers for their complete inaccuracy on their coverage maps. I travel a lot for work and I can tell you when it comes to the southeast if you get off of the 4 lane with at&t you won't have service...

@RonAtk   File an FCC complaint.   They are the ones who can hold a carrier accountable for in accurate coverage maps. They (FCC) claim T-Mobile‘s maps are in accurate, but as far as I can tell T-Mobile has one of the most honest coverage maps in the business.
