Cannot get 5G, even though map shows it as available

I am in a 5G area as shown by AT&T's map and by address lookup. But I never get a 5G connection at home. I can go a few miles away and get a 5G connection.

Why am I told that it is available but it is not?

@AlbertaAlberta  Coverage maps, by any provider, just indicate how far the signal can be detected, they do not indicate the usability of that signal. And, if you dig down on the coverage map you will probably see pockets where 5G is just not available.

5G for us is non-existent in-home as well and for a large part of our area. So, we just leave our phones on LTE only which is very reliable and stable and use WiFi-C (WiFi Calling) in-home, which also provides excellent coverage.

I had the same issue basically was told it was an estimate. Filed a complaint with the FCC and was basically told there wasn't much they could do...

Carriers are not required to provide 5g, (or any service for that matter)

They have disclaimers on the website for service in general.

LTE it great.  5g - meh or 👎 or 🚫

FCC Tell service providers where and how much juice they can produce.

5g is meant to be high capacity .  The kind of thing that would be deployed in areas of high concentration like Town centers, big cities.

5G is overrated imo anyway.

Correct that it is an estimate. Many factors affect the service so there is never a guarantee.

But it does feel that 5G advertisements and such were overblown compared to the reality. It still has a ways to go.

@OttoPylot I did a search on my specific address, and it responded that I have 5G coverage.

Oh, well. Such is life.

Well, this was strange. For a few minutes this morning, I was getting "5G+" at home. I ran a speed test and got the strange result of 299 down but only 1.7 up. Then, a few minutes later, 5G+ was gone and I've been back to regular 4G since.

Sounds like you are within 5G reach, but something in the area is interfering with the signal. Assuming your local tower is functioning properly and not overloaded.

It could be that you are in a fringe area, like we are, where it works but most times it doesn't. 5G+ is still relatively new so maybe they are still testing the local tower for the "next generation of 5G". 🤷‍♂️. LTE is what works for us all of the time and that's what we're sticking with until 5G grows up, at least in our area.

So, today 5G+ has been working all day at my home address. Maybe the issue is actually resolved.

Thanks for your input, everyone.
