International day pass query
Hi,
I will be traveling to India Next week. I have International day pass IDP enabled on my phone.
I want to use my AT&T US number to make calls to Indian phone numbers using my IDP.
Do I need to add International Calling plan $15 Along with IDP to make local calls? Or IDP Only enable me to make Local calls To Indian numbers free During my stay there.
I got two Different responses from AT&T Representatives.
First one told me that I would need to add international calling plan along with IDP to Make local calls within INDIA free.
The other rep told me That I need to add just IDP and that should make my calls to Indian numbers free without adding additional $15 for International plan.
Please advise What’s the correct info?

International Calling is for making calls to other countries from the U.S. In other words, if you wanted to call Indian numbers while you are in the U.S. International Day Pass allows you to make calls and roam while you are actually in covered countries outside of the U.S. They are two separate plans. You don’t need to buy one to get the other.
If you want to call Indian numbers while you are in India, all you need is IDP.

@dwill05 Thanks a lot for confirmation. Initially I too thought the same but confusion started after talking to AT&T reps. I don’t want to get any shocking bill from my trip .

One caveat...if you use WiFi calling, you are using your regular US plan. That would be the only scenario where you'd need to a separate international calling plan.

@MicCheck I do Wi-fi calling like FaceTime or WhatsApp without international calling plan and I don’t get charged . Will this change when on IDP ?

No, those are different. With WiFi calling, your cellular service switches over to WiFi if there are connectivity issues on the call. That acts the same as regular cell call. The only different you'd notice is that the provider at the top of your screen will say ATT WIFI.
WhatsApp, etc., use internet to make a call through a separate app. Those aren't changed by IDP.

@Angeleyes87 If you’re in India, you can call other numbers in India if you have IDP.
What countries can I call with International Day Pass while traveling abroad?
If you’re in an International Day Pass country, you can call the country you’re in, any other International Day Pass country and back to the U.S. for no additional charge. Calls to countries not included in International Day Pass will be billed at International Long Distance rates. Per-minute pay-per-use rates apply unless an International Long Distance package is added to the device placing the call. Go to att.com/internationalcalling to review rates and options.

I don’t see anything that says what you are saying. Do you have a reference for requiring International calling to use IDP?

@Angeleyes87 That is not correct. WiFi calling is how your phone acts like you're in the US. IDP covers cost of using cellular service in India. It doesn't matter who you call or text.

@MicCheck this is what it says . Wi-fi calling is covered under IDP. Isn’t this true?

Hello @, we're here to help with your International Day Pass question. Once the International Day Pass applies to your line it covers land roaming expenses in covered countries at $10 per day. There is a cap of 10 charges/$100 per bill cycle.

@ATTHelp Does that mean I can call local numbers within the IDP at no extra charge? Or do I need to activate the International Calling plan $15 on top of it ?
