International roaming.

If I have an international day pass enabled on my phone only while traveling to Japan and Korea, can I turn on the personal hotspot on my phone and will my wife be able to use my hotspot to browse the internet without signing up for an international day pass on her phone?

Yes you can use your phone just as you would in the United States for the same $10 per day.

Yes, but  your wife should keep her phone in airplane mode and turn Wi-Fi back on in order not to incur roaming charges on her phone.

To make sure wife’s phone doesn’t get roaming charges, I can disable cellular data.  And just use WiFi to connect to internet using my phone as hotspot.  I just wanted to make sure this was possible internationally.

You need to be very careful about only disabling cell data because that only disables data.  Many people have gotten stuck with roaming charges for things like texts because there are some phone functions that happen from being connected to a cell network, even if data isn’t being used.  The only guaranteed way is to put the phone in airplane mode to completely disable ANY cellular connection and then just turn WiFi back on.  Honestly there really isn’t any good reason to not put the phone in airplane mode as opposed to turning cell data off.

Again ... Airplane mode then turn on Wi-Fi again.

If Wi-Fi calling and texting has been set up before you leave the United States it will work perfectly fine on a mobile hotspot outside of the country, as long as you are in a country that permits it there are a handful that don't.

And just as a safety net, please add international day pass to both lines before you leave the United States. You don't get charged for it unless she uses service via cellular on her phone. And it would be half price if your phone is using cellular service on the same day.

The cost of accidentally connecting and using data is astronomical. 1 GB at $2.5 per megabyte is $2,000.

Hi there! Thank you for reaching out to us. We would be happy to help you. However, we would request you to add an International Day Pass on both of your lines as you will be charged for roaming while travelling internationally.
